Two weeks ago, a source for JoBlo provided a plethora of Jurassic World details regarding the new park, a new DNA-spliced dino (T-Rex/raptor/snake/cuttlefish) and Chris Pratt's training "good" dinosaurs. Up until now, this report was regarded as a mere rumor, but director Colin Treverrow has decided to address the rumors in an in-depth interview with slashfilm.com. Normally, we could expect denials with spoilers of this magnitude but Treverrow has decided to confirm most of the information JoBlo posted. That's refreshing!

Will there be crossbred dinosaurs or new species created for the movie?

We were hoping audiences could discover this on their own, but yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.

I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence.

What are the relationships between the main characters and the dinosaurs? Are there “good guy” and “bad guy” dinosaurs in the movie?

There’s no such thing as good or bad dinosaurs. There are predators and prey. The T-Rex in Jurassic Park took human lives, and saved them. No one interpreted her as good or bad. This film is about our relationship with animals, how we react to the threat they pose to our dominance on earth as a species. We hunt them, we cage them in zoos, we admire them from afar and we try to assert control over them. Chris Pratt’s character is doing behavioral research on the raptors. They aren’t trained, they can’t do tricks. He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings. If people don’t think there’s potential in those ideas, maybe they won’t like this movie. But I ask them to give it a chance.

It DOES sound utterly crazy and preposterous...but from everything else the Trevorrow has said (how it'll be more or less returning to its roots and being more like the first Jurassic Park, etc) and with Chris Pratt as the lead, it COULD be good. I'm not fully sold on how necessary another sequel is, but no choice but to wait for a trailer. PLEASE be good!

Even though my boy Chris Pratt is in this, I hope JW fails miserably. Do studios really never learn from past mistakes? Like...never?

If anyone has ever read Crichton's The Lost World they would understand the crossbreed comment. There is a dinosaur in TLW that was crossbreed and encountered by the group.

I'm glad he clarified his comments in regards to the "raptor training". As much as I'd love to see a real life adaptation of "Dino Riders" I was kind of bummed when I read the teaser, but the fact he's working with them in more of an observational/studying type capacity? Sounds to me like he's doing what Alan Grant did in the first film, only with real live subjects.

As far as the cross breeding? It was in the novels, 99% of you people get mad at Marvel/DC when DON'T use their source material and when they finally listen you guys aren't ok? There's just no pleasing some people.

John Williams can't do the music for Jurassic World as he is too busy scoring Starwars. The composer they got for Jurassic World is Michael Giacchino who scored (The Incredibles, Star Trek, Star Trek into darkness, Mission Impossible 3 and Ghost Protocol, Ratatouille, Cloverfield, Up, Super 8, and the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) I think he'll do a good job.

I don't see how it sounds worse, he mentioned the crossbreeding was suggested in Crichton's book so he's not exactly pulling this out of nowhere.

This sounds like it might be okay. I don't know if I like the idea of crossbreeding but I'll go in with an open mind. One of the themes of Crichton's book was science playing God leads to disaster, I'm betting that the new dinosaur goes on a rampage (duh) and its just them rehashing that same idea.

Actually, this sounds just fine. I don't see what everyone is complaining about. Sounds like they're drawing most of their inspiration from the first movie and the novels. That's good!

And Treverrow cleared up two of my biggest worries: some stupid, freaky mutant dinosaur, and "good" and "bad" trained dinosaurs.

Now pretty much my only concern is the effects. VFX and CGI have come a LONG way since the original Jurassic Park, but the CGI in that movie STILL holds up today! Some of it even looks BETTER than todays! If anything, we should be worried how they do their special effects, and how they balance practical effects with the CGI.
