Hasbro has officially announced the cast of their upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Reunion Special and it's looking extra morphenomenal!
After previously reporting that the Special would finally bring original cast members David Yost (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger) and Walter Jones (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger) back to the series after two decades, it's now been revealed that they'll be joined by season two and season three cast members Steve Cardenas (Rocky DeSantos/Red Ranger 2), Karan Ashley (Aisha Campbell/Yellow Ranger 2), Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam Park/Black Ranger 2), and Catherine Sutherland (Katherine Hillard/Pink Ranger 2).
The Special will also introduce newcomer Charlie Kersh as Trini's daughter Min, which seemingly confirms rumors that the reunion would pay tribute to the late Thuy Trang (Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger), who left the show in 1995 before tragically passing away in a car accident in 2001. While plot details remain under wraps, reports have indicated the episode will center on Trini's daughter, as she presumably reunites her mother's former team and carries on their legacy.
It looks like Alpha 5 will also return.
While it would've certainly been nice to see more of Trang's former season one co-stars, it seems unlikely that Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger), Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger), and Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver/Green Ranger) will be involved in any capacity.
St. John is currently unable to leave the United States, due to his ongoing legal troubles. He was arrested in May for PPP-related wire fraud and, while he's since been released on bail, is still awaiting trial, which takes him off the table. Meanwhile, Johnson has repeatedly denied having any involvement with the Special, and Frank has previously declared his retirement from playing the team's legendary sixth ranger, so we can count those two out as well.
We'll remain cautiously optimistic about Hasbro possibly pulling off a few surprises, even though for the time being, it seems highly unlikely that we'll see the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reunite on the small screen, but, hey, at least, we'll get the next best thing.
The currently filming 30th season is titled Power Rangers Cosmic Fury and will return the Dino Fury cast for their third year. It's been heavily rumored that the new season will bring the show's 30-year journey to a close, allowing the highly anticipated Netflix reboot, which will introduce a brand new team for both television and film, to start with a blank slate.
