We've heard quite a bit about Lionsgate's big screen Power Rangers adaptation recently, with director Dean Israelite recently affirming the movie's "mature but playful" tone. Now the good folks over at Heroic Hollywood claim to have learned the identities of two of the film's major characters: Rita Repulsa and Zordon. Here's what their sources had to say about the pair of fan-favorite aliens:

“A huntress. A striking, yet subtly alien-looking woman. [Rita] carries a metallic staff topped with a distinctive crescent shape. Advances with a soldier’s confidence, guided by some sort of compass... Her staff is actually a device of immense power. She points it at the ground. Heads emerge, built layer upon layer like 3-D printing, made from the earth itself... The staff’s technology grants her the ability to create humanoid figures, soulless and robotic.”

“Though alien, [Zordon] looks like a man in his 50s. Sinewy and strong, as if carved from some root that refused to die. A being of integrity and iron will.”

The site also claimed that the movie's prologue would open with these two characters in direct conflict - in a scene set during the cretaceous period on the last day of the dinosaurs. Rita, who will most likely be the film's main villain, will be seen fighting that era's Power Rangers led by Zordon himself - uncharacteristically suiting up as the Red Ranger! What are your thoughts about these new details? Power Rangers will hit theatres January 13, 2017, are you excited?

LOL, Man what? I remember seeing her in the Power rangers movie as a kid.

She was fine too.

Those are really specific descriptions. El Mayimbe has built up my trust over the last couple of years but as far as over arching plot details go that's probably the most specific he's ever gotten. Minus that time he told us the first 20 minutes of Age of Ultron.

@platinum I completely forgot about that character. I was so young the only times I watched that movie that I never paid it any attention.

I never watched the series as much as everyone else, but I'm still going to watch the movie, depending on how it looks (please don't be like any of the G.I. Joe movies).

the problem is that there are things that belong to some places, is like you should not try to do a Game of Thrones movie, put all together and try to get a hit, because that will be crap, you will need thousands of movies to even get to the level of the series...

In the same way you should not create or even try to make a Power Range movie that is R and mature, because that will not work, because power rangers is japanese fun and japanese fun belongs to [frick]ing tv and B crap.

@therealist my only defense is that I was maybe 7 the last time I watched that movie. But yeah not sure myself to be honest.

Since when was Zordon a Red Ranger? I don't remember that from back in the day...

If they're going with Unknowns they need to have star villains.

I was 10 years old when the first movie came out and had been watching the show for a couple of years but thought that the movie was childish and not very good at the time and had probably outgrown the show at that age.
Also remember my Primary School Teachers being upset at the violence in it but nothing compared to the other films that starred Arnold, Stallone or JCVD that I and many other kids watched.
But I find myself looking forward to this movie, as I thought that the new Turtles was okay, (may have had something to do with Megan Fox)

Olivia Wilde would be a good Rita.
She's so striking looking and seems so otherworldly to me,
I think she'd always play a bad ass galaxy huntress pretty damn well.

@Space - It struck me as kinda odd too. I haven't watched the show in years, but it was a huge part of my childhood and I never once remember Zordon suiting up himself. I could be wrong though...

Zordon never suited up, but from what they are saying this first part when he does takes place during the time of actual dinosaurs. So it's possible that before becoming the mentor he was the original Red Ranger.

That sounds cool. Lord Zedd is the best but all those ideas sound great. Looking forward to this movie.

I would have liked it if they wiped Super Megaforce from existence and did a legend war movie which then lead to a proper gokaiger adaptation, but still looking forward to what they do with this, they said that the shows cannon would not be ignored so is it some terminator gensys or star trek type reboot?
