Sony To Develop CGI/Live-Action ALF Movie

Only those of a certain age may remember classic '80s sitcom ALF, but the show did gain quite a cult following over the years. And now, inevitably, we can look forward to seeing the little fella on the big screen. Read on for details..

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Animation has acquired the rights to the classic 1980s TV sitcom ALF (Alien Life Form) and will develop the property into a CG-live action hybrid feature. Apparently Jordan Kerner, the man responsible for bringing (inflicting upon) us the recent Smurfs movie will also produce this, along with Tom Patchett and Paul Fusco. Fusco also voiced the character in the original show, and is expected to do the same for the movie.

For those not in the know, Alf ran from 1986 to 1990 and lasted 102 episodes. It focused on a friendly -- aside from his penchant for eating cats -- little alien named Gordon Shumway who lands on Earth and winds up staying with the Tanner family. It was actually pretty funny, or at least it was at the time, so expect the movie not to be in any way shape or form. No writer or director is attached to the project yet.

I think it would be more fun if they stuck with the guy in the suit, but hopefully will be fun. The show is an 80's classic. Loved watching it when I was a kid. Hopefully he has the same voice at least.

@jtown: I imagine it has something to do with this twisted kind of logic:

"Batman and The Avengers are known properties right?"

"So properties sell, right?"

"What properties do we have that isn't Spider-Man?"

"We have Alf"

"Do it"

Or something. This is the PG version. There's more coke and swearing in the R version.

It's always bugged me how he was caught by the people who wanted to dissect him in the last episode, and we never find out what happened.

@ TrueRedBlue
Ugh, people like you are annoying.
Hollywood has been doing sequels and adaptations since the beginning of it's existence, it's nothing new. And most movies, even movies that aren't sequels or adaptations, aren't original. They have the same plot devices and character archetypes, just different coats if pain.
99% of all romance movies are the same. 99% of comedies are the same. 99% of low brow comedies are the same. 99% of all horror movies are the same. 99% of all action movies are the same. It's the way things are, and things won't change, because this is what people are comfortable with. They complain about lack of originally yet they pay to see the same movies again and again. Hypocrites.
