Bryan Singer Wants a Crack at Bringing STAR TREK Back to Television

Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller are currently working on the remake of The Munsters, and the collaboration is going so well the two would like to combine forces and breathe new life into a Star Trek TV series.

Star Trek fans haven't had a product on the air since 2005, when Enterprise went off the air. While J.J. Abrams has breathed new life into the film franchise, no one as of yet has been able to resuscitate the brand for the small screen.

AICN has been contacted by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) who informs the site that:
the two Bryans, who have long (but separately) contemplated new “Star Trek” TV series, have discussed the possibility of pooling their resources to take a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen.

Fuller is currently the producer on NBC's The Munsters remake, which was recently retitled Mockingbird Lane. And Bryan Singer is on board as the director of the crucial pilot episode. If the show is successful it will go a long way to creating the type of confidence CBS would need in order to greenlight another Star Trek adventure.

Now the only reason to make a new Star Trek series would be to bring something new to the table. Much of the problem with Voyager was that it had an interesting premise, but didn't allow the natural conflicts that should of arose from two rival fleets joining forces to truly materialize on the screen. Another issue was that the character themselves were caricatures and not fully formed. Hopefully Singer and Fuller can bring a fresh new angle to the tale. Live long and prosper.
