Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures are planning to release the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness on 500 IMAX 3D screens from December 14th onwards. There's currently no word on whether this is a US exclusive. Judging from the date, common sense says that the footage will be shown in front of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. "Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster." Similar to The Dark Knight Rises, several scenes in the J.J. Abrams helmed sequel were shot in the IMAX format.

I really hate the title. Just sound so cheesy. Why didn't they go with something like Star Trek: Nemesis or Star Trek: Wrath of Khan. Atleast Star Trek: Darkness

^and by Nemesis and Wrath of Khan I mean a title along those lines

the original plan was to not have the words star trek in the title at all, not sure how that would have played out

Ok!
So the Opening sequence is 9 mins long compared to 11 of first!

But I'm not really sold on JJ being so silly & pompous!
Ok! I'm a huge fan but he's trying to be the Nolan for PARAMOUNT!
Without actually understanding the what makes Nolan special to WB!

Along with making 3 Blockbusters (TDK, TDKR & Inception!) he's done other things that makes Studio happy or atleast "shut up"!
Like; making a movie inside budget; INCEPTION was granted a 200 Million$ budget & Nolan made that film in 160 million, 98% of directors takes the other rute!
Then he finishes his movies shooting weeks before schedule & never gone over!
Plus he fills his films with several A-List actors in lead & supporting roles; he promotes the shit out of his movies by every possible avenue!

& what JJ is doing; Well, he's making a sequel to a 385 million$ grosser worldwide (from Budget, gross & reception STAR TREK was pretty much same as BATMAN BEGINS) after 4 bloody years!
& still there's NO trailer or even a picture released; NO promotion; even Villains name isn't revealed!
Nolan is super secretive as well; but he does reveal enough for people to talk about & have interest in his film!
JJ's secrecy is not helpful in ANY way!!

If only Star Trek had grossed 1 Billion$ (Like TDK) only then these silly tactics wouldve made a wee bit sense!
So for Gods Sake; give us a trailer; cuz I dont want to see the opening of this before any trailer or picture!

If this film is anything short of epic, it is an instant fail for me. Abrams has kept the lid on this film soooo tight for soooo [frick]ing long, never released a single trailer nor update, we still don't know who the [frick]ing villain is, we don't know a damn thing. For him to have kept the shit THIS secret for THIS damn long, the movie HAS to be epic. Anything short of epic is a fail, i'm sorry but it is.

Most underrated movie of 2013. I was debating whether or not to watch the Hobbit. This makes things a lot easier.

This sucks donkey balls. There isn't a single IMAX cinema anywhere here in Northern Ireland, so that means I ain't gonna get to see it. Gonna have to rely on the descriptions of those (lucky buggers) who see it in the IMAX screens. :'(
