Back in April, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a new, anime-inspired Star Wars cartoon to fill the vacancy created by the conclusion of Star Wars: Rebels

Set before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the new show is titled Star Wars Resistance and stars a young Resistance pilot named Kazudo Xiono, who fights alongside Poe Dameron.

At a French event titled Rendez-vous Des Partenaires 2018, Walt Disney France execs apparently revealed to programming partners that Star Wars Resistance will premiere in October.  Tweets from the event have also made their way online, which provide the first (lo-res) look at the character designs.

In the new anime-inspired Star Wars Resistance, Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma feature, with Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie lending their voices. The actual star of the series is a young, talented Resistance pilot named Kazudo Xiono. The series will depict the First Order's rise to power in the 30 years between the destruction of the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni is spearheading the project.

While I would have preferred 3D, this style looks ok.

I like the design of the storm troopers.

Really disappointed that it looks like it another human protagonist, especially after Ezra.

Rebels was awesome. This better be worth ending it.

Do we know when in the 30yrs this takes place? If Poe is in it then it must be at least 10yrs after Jedi right? Poe is what, 35ish, in the modern trilogy?

They should stop trying to make Phasma more important than she is. Clearly none of the two films’ writers thought the character or the actress was worth more than the limited role she played.

@DerekLake - They needed to sell toys and have a glorious female villain.. for a couple minutes and a disappointing last fight.

Like they needed to rip off the OT some more they did it the worst way possible.. I was excited to have a decent villain after her disappointing scenes in TFA.. in the trailers she was good.. too bad it was pretty much all in the trailers.

Dave Filoni is the only person I trust anymore in the Star Wars film/tv universe, so I have faith he will pull off another winner.

Looks cool, premise is kinda cool and Dave Filoni at the helm makes it even better. More hyped for this than for IX at the moment

Dave Faloni has been doing a kick ass job, way better than the film side. This looks in the vain of Netflix's Voltron and Last Airbender (which he worked on). I'm onboard 100%!
