RUMOR MILL: Lucasfilm Reportedly Has Big Plans For DARTH BANE Across Multiple Upcoming Projects

We know that future Star Wars movies and TV shows are likely to head into the Galaxy Far, Far Away's past, but a new rumour indicates that the spotlight will soon be put on Darth Bane. Read on for details!

In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumours that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

With the "Skywalker Saga" now at an end, Lucasfilm is planning to put the spotlight on other time periods in this Galaxy Far, Far Away. That gives the studio far more creative freedom moving forward, and avoids having to continue to focus on familiar names and faces (which is what the Disney+ TV shows are doing right now with the likes of The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi).

Now, a new rumour that's doing the rounds claims that multiple Star Wars projects are in the works featuring Darth Bane. These potentially include a solo project, but it's unknown whether the character will be the focus of upcoming theatrical releases or on Disney's popular streaming service.

While Bane is well-known to fans, the removal of the Expanded Universe as canon gives Lucasfilm a tonne of creative freedom. He was also around 1000 years old before the events of The Clone Wars

Bane is the creator of the "Rule of Two," and he's been the focus of many EU novels and comics.

This is just a rumour and should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, but utilizing Bane would make sense in a lot of ways, and exploring the early days of the Jedi and Sith would be welcomed by many fans. There's also some potential for this to tie into the "Skywalker Saga," even if it's just in very non-specific ways.

Now that is what I already wanted to see for a long time. That era, although only briefly mentioned a few times, has a ton of potential in my opinion. Hopefully they can get Hamill to voice him again too

The only post-2000 EU stuff I know about is KotOR. And this guy isn't from KotOR.

If true cool

On another topic, just cancelled a few things and got HBOMax, got to say way better than Disney+, disney+ is great, but really the best stuff on there is the animated stuff (hopefully more of the original content shows up soon) but with HBOMax, there is just so much more variety, DC, Anime, Looney Tunes, normal HBO, cartoon network classics and other stuff

@dracula - As someone who already had HBO and was given HBO Max for free, I really haven’t watched much. Mainly what it offers is... more animated stuff. Maybe a larger variety of animated stuff (I need to get around to checking out the Studio Ghibli stuff that I haven’t seen), but everything fresh on that service that interests me comes from HBO anyway.

@Chewtoy - well there is a lot of animated stuff, and obviously the regular hbo stuff and the dc stuff, but also a shit load of movies and older tv shows.

It would be awesome if the made a movie/tv series from a Sith point of view.
Darth Maul or the Knights of Renn would be my picks.
Also a movie about Bounty Hunters, with Valance and Boba Fett would be great.

If only they'd had plans for Luke Skywalker 6-8 years ago...

Too bad they [frick]ed up the Skywalker saga...it really does feel like Disney massacred something special here. So much so that even though Mandalorian is something special you can't help but stop and think about how nonsensical and damaging it was as a whole to the property. [frick] TLJ and TRoS...

Will Mark Hamill reprise the role? XD

I want Denis Villeneuve to direct a future Star Wars project. I think he would be perfect for this or something similar.

@Repian - Denis won't go anywhere near Star Wars. He's a cerebral filmmaker that does films that make you think...SW is pure spectacle, and Lucasfilm as of late have a history of having paint by numbers movies. Mandalorian aside, they wouldn't give him creative control.

@Canon108 - Denis has already said that he would be interested in exploring "other parts of the galaxy", alternative stories. So this thing about him not wanting to go near Star Wars is not true. Lucasfilm has just hired Taika Waititi to direct and write a movie, as well as Kevin Feige to product one. Pretty sure they will have creative control or at least most of it, or they wouldn't have accepted it.

@Canon108 - Plus, if you make a story completely unrelated to the Skywalker Saga, like Mandalorian, don't see Lucasfilm being too stingy with creative control.
