STAR WARS: Daisy Ridley Comments On ROGUE ONE Fan Theories; Says She Doesn't Think 'Rey' Is A Jedi
Wait.. Rey's not a Jedi? That's what Daisy Ridley suggested during an interview at the MTV awards last night. The actress also laughs off the baseless fan theory that Jyn Erso is Rey's mother..
When the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit, some fans/websites immediately latched on to the fact that the Jyn Erso character was female, and capable of giving birth. Meaning of course, that she must be Rey's mother... apparently. The silliness of the forced connection was not lost on Daisy Ridley, who responded brilliantly when asked about this by MTV.
“I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom.” In fact, Ridley already knows who Rey's parents are, and doesn't really think it's as big a deal as most fans seem to. “I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is.”
Ridley also commented on the currently shooting Episode VIII, which she describes as "darker". Plus, she gives a very interesting response when asked about Rey's future as a Jedi.
“I don’t know if I am a Jedi… I don’t think I am. We’ve had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers. Just because she’s not like, oh I’m going on an adventure like Luke doesn’t make her any less Forceful.”
It's possible Ridley simply means Rey hasn't been properly trained as a Jedi yet (though she seems to be doing okay in TFA) and so can't lay claim to that title - but surely she will become a Jedi at some point, right?
What do you guys think?
