STAR WARS: Has The Title Of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey-Focused Movie Been Revealed? STAR WARS: Has The Title Of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey-Focused Movie Been Revealed?

Though this is very much a rumor for the time being, the title of Lucasfilm and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's planned Rey-focused Star Wars movie may have been revealed.

We had been hearing that Daisy Ridley might be in talks to return as Star Wars sequel trilogy lead, Rey, for a future project set in the galaxy far, far away for quite a while, and the news was finally confirmed during Star Wars Celebration London back in April.

Ridley will reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker" for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's movie, which will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.

“What we’re exploring is the evolution of the Jedi,” Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy told Empire when the project was first announced. “We’re moving 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in chaos – there’s even a question of how many exist anymore – and Rey’s building the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her.”

Now, the title of the movie may have been revealed.

Though we're filing this one firmly in the rumor category for now, YouTuber Star Wars Meg - who has shared some accurate details in the past - has heard that the Rey-focused film will be called Star Wars: A New Beginning.

A little on the generic side? Sure, but it does sound like something Lucasfilm would go with for the title of a movie that represents a relaunch (of sorts) for the franchise on the big screen.

Even if this is accurate, there's a chance it's simply a working title - although it might be worth noting that Kennedy did reveal that work on this movie is further along than we realized, so it might well prove to be the official title.

"We’ve been working on that film for a few years and all of that feeds into our overall storytelling," she told Yahoo!. "So we’ve just got to a point now where we’ve got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, and we’re probably going to see a script in the next month and a half that we’ve been working on for quite a while. So we’re getting close."

That interview was conducted back in April, so even taking the recent Hollywood strikes into account, pre-production must surely be at a more advanced stage than it was 6 months ago.

What do you think? Would you be happy with "Star Wars: A New Beginning" as the title of the Rey movie? Drop us a comment down below.

Should be called “Rey The Taker” cause all she does is take things that aren’t hers.

@AnthonyVonGeek - exactly. They had to take away all that Luke built in the original trilogy just to give it all to rey. Even the death of Palpatine, previously a work of father and son over a generation, now is just done by rey.

Nobody wants to see that.
Also this movie isn't official yet and probably won't happen.
Not in 2024 or 2025 at least.

@MarvelZombie616 - May 25 could happen easily if the strike ends by the new year. Especially if preproduction is mostly done.

@MarvelZombie616 - at this point just reboot the WHOLE thing. Star Wars isn’t so sacred that it isn’t above a retelling.

I really don't see the return of Star Wars to the big screen to be very big. Even the Filoni film.

@WakandanQueen - If they brought A-listers to make this, maybe. But they choose :
"Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is a Pakistani-Canadian journalist, filmmaker and activist known for her work in films that highlight gender inequality against women."

You know this is not going to go well.

@DevilsDreams - I think this movie won't be made at all with that director.

It's going to end with another "creative differences" bullshit statement.

I have nothing against Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, but to hire a muslim feminist journalist to direct a 200+ millions action space opera is really a huge stretch here...

You don't hire Nolan to make a buddy cop movie, or Tarantino to do a rom-com. There is this weird idea these days in hollywood that any director can make any kind of movies, and that's why we end up with a lot of bland movies made without passion.

Meh. Was ready to move on from Rey as her character was pretty boring. Hopefully she's given more depth here.

DevilsDreams - 10/23/2023, 4:54 AM
@ModHaterSLADE - She could be a good character if written well, I mean look at Ahsoka!
Ahsoka was generally hated when she was first introduced, as she was basically a snot nosed brat, however the stories allowed her to be viewed as a flawed character one that faced challenges and failures, usually because she was too headstrong, overconfident or even arrogant at points, when she failed she found humility and attempted to grow from those mistakes. Where now you find her to be a very popular character.

Go [frick] yourself. You're grasping for any last utter to milk. They need to stop trying to create a new Skywalker Saga. That magic is already captured for all time, and to try to reproduce it in any way will only see more bastardized mutations of creative pig slop flung upon us.

If they don't have someone pitching a complete idea that's a hit, don't bother making it. I can't even begin to give a shit about some basic shit like A New Beginning. [frick].

So basically what Luke should have gotten

Hopefully the writing is better than the sequel trilogy and if Rey is just a mentor, the new character is more interesting than her.

I have zero interest and will skip. They need to bring back Skywalker name somehow and restore the balance and everything the rise of Skywalker destroyed. Follow canon and listen to fans.

@cubichy - I agree. Even if they give Ben some off-screen kid, it works. Could make a good apprentice for Rey (which Rey probably isn't capable off, considering every mentor figure she had left her and thus she has no example to follow)

@Taonrey - nope, canon. Why should I accept dogshit from fluzzie director, fix it. Bring back Skywalker.
DevilsDreams
DevilsDreams - 10/23/2023, 5:01 AM
@FinnishDude - Rise of Skywalker was a result of them not having a larger game plan for the new trilogy, Rian Johnson's running wild and also the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher.
If you'd had a Kevin Feige style lead behind the scenes, you could have had Rian coming in with an understanding of here's where you're staring from, these are the key points you need to hit and this is where we are aiming to get.

Sadly it seems he was left to do what he wanted and tried to reinvent Star Wars without trying to fully understand it first.

Sam Witwer made some good comments regarding this;
“I think Rian Johnson’s a talented guy, but Bruce Lee didn’t develop Jeet Kune Do without learning Kung Fu first.”
“You can’t reinvent Star Wars without knowing Star Wars first and he didn’t, for me, make a compelling argument for why Luke wouldn’t go and help his sister. Or if indeed Luke is hiding out on that island because he feels so badly for how he handled Kylo Ren – then why is Luke trash talking Kylo Ren at the end of the movie? Which is it – do you feel bad that you hurt this boy or do you trash talk him?”

@Taonrey - There was nothing "focused" about those films. 3 long ass movies and they still haven't even given us anything with this Rey character beyond Rey is strong because.

"Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her."

So, literaly what Marvel Comics had Luke do in it's original run post-ROTJ and many EU books showed Luke doing as well.
How creative.

Maybe they should do something different and have her become a broken disillusioned failure becomes a hermit on a deserted island or something like that. 🤣
