STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Includes An Obscure Throwback To A NEW HOPE

More unused concept art from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been revealed, and this includes a surprising reference to A New Hope which didn't make it into the final few minutes of the movie...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ended with Rey arriving on Tatooine to bury Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa's lightsabers on the old Lars Homestead. The home of the former before he took off into space alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi, it was a fitting place for the franchise to end.

Of course, the whole "Rey Skywalker" thing was definitely controversial, but this newly revealed concept art from artist Adam Brockbank shows the young Jedi spending even more time at Luke's old home.

As you can see, despite decades having past, she discovers the Jedi Master's old model of a T-16 skyhopper from A New Hope. Luke was shown holding and flying the model through the air before R2-D2 started playing that message from Princess Leia.

An Easter Egg like this would have been fun to see on screen, but just returning to the Lars Homestead was a nice throwback. There's no explanation as to why this didn't end up in The Rise of Skywalker, but it could have boiled down to there simply not being enough time in such a busy film.

@Moriakum - no doubt. She literally couldn't stop whining about who her parents were for 2 films. When she finds out they were just a couple of people that sacrificed everything, including their lives to keep her safe, suddenly they weren't good enough.

How is that an "obscure throwback". Everyone remembers that Skyhopper.

Stealing a line from Big Trouble in Little China. “For STAR WARS, take what you want and leave the rest.”

If you just want Star Wars to be the original trilogy it can be just the original trilogy.

If you want to give it some more context you can add the prequel trilogy... if you hate the prequel‘s you don’t even need to acknowledge them because the original trilogy tells its own story.

If you want to include the clone wars rebels the Mandalorian you can.
they’re not required viewing to make the original trilogy makes sense or episodes one through six make any more sense but they are there for added entertainment if you so choose or not choose

If you hate the sequel trilogy skip it it’s not required viewing you could watch episodes four through six and then if the next movie comes out set 100 years after return of the Jedi you just assume that everyone after return of the Jedi passed away of their own versions that you like.

Choose yourself!

JJ wants us to know he watched the OT. Look at all these little easter eggs kids!
So many callbacks. Such respect for the classics!

*Ends the series with all the Skywalkers dead and a Palpatine victorious steals their legacy.*

@Feralwookiee - Rey literally rejects Palpatine and takes the Skywalker name with Luke and Leia’s blessing.

Pull the other one.

@repulse93 - Hey. You touch your own balls. 😜

That aside, if you are personally comfortable with a Palpatine culturally appropriating the Skywalker legacy with no true connection or understanding of them or the Jedi order, that's fine. Personally, that doesn't sit well with me at all.

@Feralwookiee - First, "cultural appropriation" is not a term that applies to this and is really a term no mature person should ever use. Rey never took the side of Palpatine, never claimed the name, and rejected everything about that legacy. And I believe she spent more time with Luke and Leia (both of Rey's teachers), and the readings of the Jedi texts, than Luke ever did before he claimed to be "A Jedi, like my father before me." Or maybe that doesn't sit well with you either. Rey is not only rejecting the dark side as Luke did, but the entire line of the Sith that the Skywalkers were destroyed while fighting, and one who gave up his life force to bring her back. She absolutely deserves to be welcomed into the Skywalker family.

@TFett - While I would disagree about "cultural appropriation" being a term "no mature person should ever use", everything else you said hits the nail on the [frick]ing head.

You know how they brought back the legends for The Force Awakens, I don't think any of the Palpatine trilogy will want to comeback.

I think they are all pretty much done with Star Wars now, it's not their fault the movies weren't good it's how their characters were written and directed.
