Hello ComicBookMovie.com! I haven't written anything on this site in a long, long time. But now that I have a bit of free time I decided to do something we all love to do and speculate about Star Wars! Now before I begin I'd like to share with you how my love for Star Wars began in the first place. The year was 2006 and I was only eight years old; I was young, naive and full of hope. I had grown up watching the original Star Trek series and the slung of movies that came with it. I was a devoted Trekkie like my father before me, but that all changed when I first saw those beautiful words  "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." flash across the screen and from that moment on I was hooked. The first Star Wars film I ever saw was Attack of the Clones and I loved every second of it. I wanted to be Anakin Skywalker fighting droids on Geonosis. I wanted to help Master Yoda fight Count Dooku. I wanted to go to that galaxy far, far away and live in the world of Star Wars in all of its glory. As soon as the film finished and the credits began to roll I rushed home and demanded to know if my father had any more of these "Star Wars" films. He begrudgingly handed me a dusty boxset for the original trilogy and from that time on my world was changed forever. So now that you know how my love for Star Wars began it's time for my article to begin, so without further ado here are three directors who need to direct a future Star Wars film!

Alex Garland

Alex Garland is probably not a name your very familiar with, however he recently caught my eye with his little gem of a film Ex Machina (2015), which also happens to be his directorial debut. Also besides being one of the best upcoming directors around he happens to be a very prolific writer; responsible for the screenplays of such films as Sunshine (2007), Dredd (2012), and 28 Days Later... (2002). Even though he has only directed one film I can already tell that he is going to be a director you are going to want to be looking out for in the future. Ex Machina (2015) was just such a well-crafted, smart movie that pushed the conventions of the science fiction genre. Another reason he would be a good choice to work on a Star Wars film, whether it is Episode IX or an Anthology film like Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One (2016), is that he has already worked with both Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) and A Most Violent Year (2014))  and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time (2013) and Frank (2014)) who are both supposed to play major roles in this year's Star Wars - Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015). Do you think Alex Garland would be a good choice to direct a Star Wars film in the near future?

Matt Reeves

Matt Reeves is another name you’re probably not too familiar with, but you are definitely familiar with his work. He is the director of; Clover field (2008), Let Me In (2010) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). If you have ever seen any of Reeves' films you will know one thing, that he is a fantastic character and actors director. A character like Koba from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) could have been a completely one dimensional clichéd villain in a lesser directors hands, but thankfully in Reeves hands he was a compelling character that I actually sympathized with. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) was one of the best films of last year; it corrected all of the problems from the first film and expanded upon the world. Another of Matt Reeves great talents as a director is his world building. I don't know what it is, but so far all of his films are just so immersive and you feel like you are right there next to the characters the whole time you are watching. Matt Reeves is a fantastic director and I would love to see him direct a future Star Wars film. How about you? Do any of you think Reeves would be a good fit for the Star Wars universe?

George Miller

Am I still on the Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) hype train? Well you're damn right I am! After seeing that superb adrenaline rush of a movie I would watch anything this man directed, even if it was Happy Feet 3... George Miller has directed such great films such as; Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). I was just blown away at how viseral an experience Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) was, it was a great action movie with amazing stunts and surprisingly a really interesting story and some really compelling characters. If you haven't seen the newest Mad Max film I urge you to see it, you really won't regret it. Just imagine how much fun this guy could have playing in the Star Wars universe. Imagine a bounty hunter film or a Clone Trooper anthology film with the same grit and intensity as Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)? Who on earth wouldn't want to see that?! Anyway am I crazy? Do any of you want to see Dr. George Miller be in the Star Wars universe?

So there you have it! Those are three immensely talented directors that I would love to see in the Star Wars universe. Do you like my choices? Hate them? What directors would you like to see direct a future Star Wars film? Let me know in the comments below!

At this point I would go see anything George Miller is involved with! I can tell from your avatar that you loved Fury Road just as much as I did and Ex Machina was such a disturbing film, Oscar Issac and Domahall Glesson had great chemistry in that movie

I still need to watch Ex Machina but after seeing his screenwriting credits, I'm all for Alex Garland. And I'm on that Fury Road hype train also, great film.

Matt Reeves, totally.

But I feel like Alex Garland might be against signing on for a big, clunky blockbuster. If you listen to some of his interviews for Ex Machina he seemed really wary of turning it into some big budget film because he likes having total creative control. So I don't know.

I just feel like I'd rather see he and George Miller do more personal films than get sucked into the soulless blockbuster-making machine.

Ex Machina was such a cool film, it had a Kubrick vibe to it too, something I haven't seen in a long time. I'd love to see him take on a CBM too, maybe something like Moon Knight

And, Mad Max: Fury Road rocked!! Such a cool movie, I want to see more from Miller. I could see him directing a Punisher movie, taking inspiration from the "Born" arc, with Castle starting out in Vietnam, or an updated War Zone, like Afghanistan.... and Tom Hardy as "Punisher"

Mad Max was awesome man, the pace of the movie, the acting/dialogue, the action, awesome time at the Theatre

I've thought the same thing. I think Kubrick would have brought something really special to A.I.
