Never underestimate the box office draw of that galaxy far, far away. Last year Star Wars: The Force Awakens went on to become the highest grossing domestic release in history after a a $248 million bow, and although next month's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is not expected to match that incredible feat, analysts do predict that it'll take in more than $130 million over the course of its first weekend in US theaters.
This would not only give it the second-best opening in the franchise's history, but the second highest-grossing December debut of all time. Impressive. Most impressive.
In related news, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has spoken to EW about the future of the saga, and has all-but confirmed that Rogue One will be the first Star Wars movie that won't utilize that iconic opening crawl. Do you think that's a smart decision? Sound off below.
