There have been rumours for a while now that Superman might make an appearance in Shazam! to bring Billy Batson into the wider DC Extended Universe and that was confirmed yesterday when we learned that Henry Cavill turned down a role in the movie (and ultimately walked away from playing the Man of Steel). What would that cameo have entailed? Well, some details have now been revealed.
According to The Wrap's Umberto Gonzales, "the Superman cameo in Shazam! was supposed to be Clark at the end of the movie meeting with Billy Batson, the kid who [turns into] Shazam, telling him ‘Hey, we’re gonna keep an eye on you,’ that kind of thing." That would have been very cool to see and a nice way to set up Superman either appearing in Black Adam or Shazam joining the Justice League.
Unfortunately, the chances of that happening now appear to be somewhere between slim and none. While it's possible that Cavill's departure from the DCEU could be a very public negotiating tactic, he appears to be done with the character for now and both that and him not appearing in Shazam! has come as a blow to fans.
