SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Producers Did Pitch Cameos For Holland, Garfield, & Maguire

Fans were disappointed that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse didn't feature cameos from the actors who played the Webhead in live-action, but producers Phil Lord & Chris Miller actually did pitch a scene.

As well-received as Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was, many fans felt the animated adventure missed an opportunity to have the actors who had previously brought live-action life to the Wall-Crawler on the big screen make cameo appearances.

Well, it turns out producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller did actually pitch a scene involving Spider-Ham interacting with Spideys voiced by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire, but the studio felt it was "too soon."

“We pitched the Sony brass an ambitious tag involving Spider-Ham, Tobey, Andrew, and Tom,” Miller wrote on Twitter during last night's Quarantine Watch Party. "[But] they felt it was too soon."

We assume by "tag," Miller is suggesting that this would have been another post-credits sequence, possibly setting up the events of Spider-Verse 2.

While it's obviously a shame that this never came together, it does sound like Sony is open to the idea at some point in the future. Holland, at least, certainly sounds game, and actually spoke about his scrapped cameo during an interview last year.

“There was going to be another Peter Parker," he revealed to JOE. "There was like a scene in a train station or something, and it was going to be like an Easter egg. I was going to walk through the background or something, and say, like, 'Hey, kid.”

Hopefully Sony does everything it can to make this crossover happen in Spider-Verse 2, because this animated universe's alternate reality-hopping rules open the door to limitless possibilities.

Sony was actually right, imo. Would have felt too soon if they want to make a franchise, or at least a trilogy, out of Spider-Verse.

We better get a tag of some sort next film teasing this though

@KWilly - I'm re-reading the Iron Man Fraction run and his artist draws Rhodey like Howard in a lot of panels...

From a comic book perspective I get the love for this film, but something about the animation style killed it for me. Every time I try to watch I can't go for more then 15 minutes before it starts to hurt my eyes for some reason.

Just rewatched the Raimi trilogy.

After all the glitz and ambition of the MCU, im surprised at how much I still enjoy these classic, sweet movies. Aside from a few moments that were a bit, well, Venomized, the motivations of the characters are so wholesome. Here is the classic Peter, just trying to do right by his murdered Uncle Ben and the ideals he tried to pass on. Aunt May, heartbroken and struggling financially while still giving every bit of her love to Peter (when she gives him the money on his birthday, tucks it forcefully into his hand saying, “It’s not much but you take it,” is a scene we won’t likely get again as Spiderman evolves on the big screen.) And then MJ, played by Kirsten Dunst who is as close to a Romita drawing as we’ll get for MJ, struggling to make her way in the world and find her dream ... in love with the boy who has struggles of his own with love and life and dreams. I’m glad these movies were made because with all their flaws they are a reasonable record of what I loved about Spidey in the 70s.

He was just your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler with money issues, girl problems, and a bunch of big baddies who wouldn’t let him take a day off.

Call me greedy, but it has to be all three Spideys or GTFO.

I wonder if a live action movie with the 3 would make Avengers money, It would target Generation X, Milenials and Centenials, 🤔.

I honestly believe that if you split the comic book Spider-Man into three, you'd get Tobey (Peter's earnestness), Andrew (Spidey's wit and confidence) and Tom (Peter's youth)

I hope when they do show up it's their actual versions of the characters. Not just other Spider-Men voiced by them

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Also, he loves the character. Hell of actor, best of the three, shame he got such bad scripts and direction.

@MCUKnight11 - I saw Garfield at a Q&A last year in London for Under The Silver Lake, and he mentioned to the crowd that he does have "unfinished business with Spider-Man". He seemed to still genuinely love the character.

@TheMaster2011 - Garfield was a legit fan of Spidey, for sure. Holland is more of a casual fan. While Maguire didn't care whatsoever about the job.

I would almost say that Sony is saying it's too soon because they're working on a live-action Spider-Verse. But since it's Sony, they're probably focusing on a Madame Web movie
