James Cameron Meet Marc Webb!

The 3D Master has a meeting with the Webslingers NEW Mentor!!!

This from MTV:

“Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Cameron’s producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the “Avatar” filmmaker and Spider-Man’s new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they've announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.”

Turns out James liked 500 days of summer and after seeing the latest Marc Webb flick he told Landau that they should get together and work with Marc. Who knew!?!?!

Jon also let us in on some 3D movie thoughts as well:

“Other movies are turning to it now, some of which I agree with, some of which I don't agree with. ‘Clash of The Titans’ is coming out in 3-D; they're converting it very hastily into 3-D. I'm not in favor if that,” Landau explained, saying he and Cameron much prefer what “Spider-Man” is doing. “If you want to shoot a 3-D movie, shoot it in 3-D.”

And that is why I am not as excited to see Clash of the Titans in 3D or any other movie that did not first shoot their movie in 3D. I really don't have to much faith in the conversion process. The 3D effects wont be as sharp.

One has to wonder what notes the two compared? Script notes? Hopefully not 3D gimmick notes. None of those guys!

Dude, i liked 500 days too, but that dancing in the street scene was waaay too much like the emo catwalk by McGuire in Spidey 3. In fact, before I found out that 500 days director was helming the next spidey movie, as I watched 500, i thought...please let that never happen to Spidey again. *Refrains prayer

I have no problem with this as long as its not gimmicky...Avatar used it in a clever way that enhanced the movie which is fine - what I dont want is webs flying out of the screen just for the sake of it, lol!

Guys, check out my VENOM/CARNAGE Fan Cast! Just click the link!!! :)

I freakin' hate 3-D for motion pictures. It should stick to fully animated.

MTL- You're totally right. Peter wasn't "EMO" in SM3, he was a flat out panzy. I mean, i like panzies but not when they pull off broadway numbers in public.

I hate 3D, it's a waste, ruins good films or just tries to improve ones that suck.

I agree with Jon that Clash of the Titans should not be released in 3D just for the hell of it. In general I hate 3D, but at least avatar had the right reasons for doing it

LEEE- I really hope you never go see this film. Just flat out boycott it. Just so we don't have to hear you say it sucks even if it turns out great just because you are biased about a reboot. Do everyone including yourself a favor and never go see it ;)

Yeah I also don't get the hype of 3D I think its a waste of time and technology. I dunno, I love the idea of a reboot but the director is already a fail. We'll see though.

Reboots have a lot working against them. They can't rely on special effects and pretty faces alone. They better have a damn good story and/or character development to go with this reboot.

hmm, I already thought about how Webb wuld feel about Cameron. As a young new director, i think he would idolize him and his success, but at the same time, spiderman will clearly be Webb's biggest break, and Cameron called it "sloppy seconds" which would be a slap in the face to anyone. I know he said it beofre any name was attatched, so it's not a personal insult, but it's gotta be a bit demeaning to know the biggest movie you will ever make, is being called sloppy seconds by the biggest director in the world. lol unlike some of you, i hope they only compare visual notes. I want the story to be comic based, not cameron based
ManhuntersBastardChild
ManhuntersBastardChild - 2/16/2010, 10:54 AM
@ blank, I don't think Webb has the luxury of minding about that right now...not if he's got any brains. This is the biggest break of his career thus far, he better pull up to that table and treat those sloppy seconds like an exotic delicacy!

pirahna 3D will kick ass.....especially the topless scenes.

@instigatorgirl- You really dont get the 3d hype? I love it. It's getting so good, and it's not just the flying towards the screen shit anymore, it's depth and just a cool visual effect. No offense or anyhting I just don't see how ayone could NOT want to see spidey swinging through NYC in 3D!

I think It's going to look great, and i have no reason to doubt the story will be good, my only concern is that its aimed either too young or the acting is not what tobey pulled off.
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/16/2010, 11:13 AM
@ manhunters- im not saying he should be bitter and refuse his suggestions, I just think he probably feels stupid that the god of the box office called his biggest project yet sloppy seconds. It probably ruined some of his excitement to get such a huge project
Shaman
Shaman - 2/16/2010, 11:13 AM
I'll have to agree with Superdog on this. The topless scenes alone will make Pirahna3D a classic! It's what jenifer's body could have been :(

blankofthedead- If you haven't read my Avatar review yet, that could explain why you don't know how certain people don't like 3D for motion pictures. It's simple really. Any "moving" object will appear fuzy and after looking at half of the movie, the 3D effect looses it's lush. After a while, it appears as if we're just looking at a regular 2D film but with glasses on. That is until something visually breathtaking appears to fluff up the 3D. Avatar had the living environments going in their favor. Spidey has shit.

I could see Jim as a producer of the next "Spider-Man" film.
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/16/2010, 11:31 AM
@shaman- I think that just depends on the budget, amount of cgi, and the team behind it. Animated obviously looks better in 3D. But with Avatar breaking boundries, I think it's safe to say we could see an end to the headaches involved in 3D live action. I think it's something that will continue to grow and IMAX 3D for live action is much better, In Avatar the 3D was still great before you even see the Navi. I'd say as it is tho 3D is more fun than 2D regardless of what advancements are made before the filming of spidey. Just my opinion tho, I see where you're coming from though
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 2/16/2010, 11:42 AM
I'm still on a "wait and see" basis for this movie. I'm not anticipating its suckiness, but I'm not counting the days until its release either. Just going to wait and see for either more info on the film (cast, plot, etc.) or when I just go and watch the film when it comes out.

Oh yeah, 3D sucks...
Shaman
Shaman - 2/16/2010, 12:04 PM
blankofthedead- That is my point though. You say the 3D was great even before we get to see the Navi. That's true cause your eyes don't get used to the 3D until halfway through. So you get to fully experience it in the opening. But even in the opening, the fast moving objects do appear fuzzy. In fact, the faster the fuzzier. Slow moving objects get annoying at times because they're like "half" fuzzy. After a while, your eyes adapt to the 3D and it feels like your watching a 2D film. Avatar was my first ever 3D experience in theaters and it MADE me hate 3D single handedly. Of course i didn't go see it in Imax cause i'm not about to pay more than 10$ for a ticket. So until Imax gets to cost as much as regular theaters or that every film gets shown in only Imax theaters, i have to stick with the regular shtick. And until 3D at regular theaters evolves to no longer needing glasses, i'll be keeping my 3D experiences merely animated ;)
SuperPowered
SuperPowered - 2/16/2010, 12:08 PM
I agree Shaman. I saw Dark Knight and Superman Returns both in 3d at the Imax and it was annoying having to put the 3d glasses on at some points, your eyes weren't adjusted it was more of a bother.

i'm with leee and grif, screw this reboot. and screw this 3D crap. oh wow avatar was in in 3D and successful, lets all do our movies like that... suck it!

Some movies should do it and some shouldnt. That question of to 3D or not to 3D will only be answered by the box office.
