Jon Watts Reveals SPIDER-MAN's Age In The MCU And Talks Skipping Uncle Ben's Death
Spider-Man reboot director Jon Watts has revealed exactly how old Tom Holland's Peter Parker will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also weighs in on what makes the British actor the right choice for the role as well as why they're skipping the origin story...
We still know very little about what we should expect from the wall-crawler's arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it has been confirmed that both Captain America: Civil War and 2017's Spider-Man reboot will skip the origin story.
"There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben," director Jon Watts said in an interview with Empire Magazine (via Yahoo). "I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now."
These comments pretty much confirm that those recent dubious rumours about Spider-Man having been in existence for a year in the MCU are false, especially as Peter didn't get bitten in the comics until he was 15. This means 19 year old actor Tom Holland will be playing a character a good few years younger than him, and Watts had nothing but good things to say about the actor. "Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man."
Are you looking forward to this new take on the iconic Marvel superhero?
