SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Concept Art Reveals That America Chavez Was Originally Going To Appear

America Chavez is set to make her MCU debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but some new concept art has now confirmed that she was originally going to be introduced in No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home featured the return of several familiar villains (and a couple of heroes) from alternate realities, but it looks like there were originally plans in place for another character to make her MCU debut as a result of Doctor Strange's spell.

Some official No Way Home concept designs have been shared online by artists Maciej Kuciara and Marek Okon, and they confirm the rumor that America Chavez was going to be introduced in the Sony Pictures threequel.

The first image shows Chavez standing in the middle of what looks like a bumper car rink holding a mysterious book while Peter Parker, MJ, Ned Leeds, Flash Thompson and Betty Brant look on. The second appears to reveal that the Multiverse-traversing hero was going to play a part in the final battle (is she holding the Green Goblin cure here?)

Xochitl Gomez will play Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but based on this artwork, it looks like Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) was being considered for the role at one point.

Saving Chavez's debut for the Doctor Strange sequel was probably a wise move, but remember, Marvel Studios was originally going to release In The Multiverse of Madness before No Way Home, so audiences would have been familiar with the character when she showed up to lend the wall-crawler a hend.

Interesting. I wonder what their explanation for her would have been in the context of that adventure. I'm glad they didn't use her, the film was already over stuffed and and had to resort to ham fisted exposition to carry the story along for most of the film

@ElricReturns - she's a hero who specifically deals with the multiverse and different realities, so it's possible she noticed all of the universes connecting and came in to fix it.

@Origame - that's kinda what I was imagining too, roughly.

I think she is the Marvel character the writers were refering in an interview about how Andrew and Tobey were gonna be introduced originally, so most probably she is the one who was gonna bring them to the MCU

Makes sense they decided against that. She's not the most exciting thing to introduce, and there's just so much in that movie that distracts from her, so that would kill so much interest in seeing her later.

My bet would be she was someway responsible for the villains coming through. Since the way that happens seems like a rewrite.

@TheManWithoutFear - could be possible. From what we've been told by the writers, this film was reworked a few times right before filming, and probably during.

I bet she was used at a time when they weren't sure of getting the other spideys in the movie

I don’t think she’s cool at all. She doesn’t even have a name that goes with her power or any kind of name, just the name of a country. A continent or two I mean.

I’m pretty sure this is from early on, where Doctor Strange 2 was supposed to come out before Spider-Man so they already would have introduced her there

@MeAreLegend - Came here to say exactly this

@MeAreLegend - So it would have been her butting in on the cool moment instead of ned’s grandma

@TheWalkingCuban - in a Variety Interview a week ago I believe, the writers said that a Marvel character was supposed to bring in the two characters and we all thought it was Strange. I’m pretty sure they were referring to Chavez now that this concept art is out

@MeAreLegend - no doubt. Sony was smart not budging this last time, sticking to a week before Christmas, messed marvel up for sure but… America Chavez? For once I can say, thank, Sony, and mean it. She’s like the good guy version of Kylie Morgenthau. “Get a cool name!” “No, iron man revealed his name, why should I use a handle? I’m keeping all my social media on the same level” 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤮🤮🤮🤮

It's a minor miracle that NWH turned out so great when so much of it seemed to change during production

@OmegaDaGrodd - Yeah, especially considering that Doctor Strange 2 was supposed to come out before this and how closely these movies are connected

There were a ton of a different ideas because they weren't sure they were going to get both Maguire and Garfield back. They said they didn't know until they were filming and if they couldn't get both, they weren't going to use just one of them. This was probably a back up plan at one point.
