Spider-Man: No Way Home was a phenomenal movie, but one that might have been much different had it not been for the pandemic. Both Rhys Ifans and Thomas Haden Church were forced to shoot their roles remotely, hence why Marvel Studios recycled footage from The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3.
Despite that, it was still fun to spend more time with The Lizard and Sandman in the threequel, but have we really seen the last of Flint Marko?
During a recent interview with The DisInsider, Church confirmed there have been talks about a possible return as Sandman.
"John and I and Amy [Pascal] and Kevin, we all had a lot of conversations. And I would say that conversations have been had about the possibility of Sandman coming into a future iteration of it," the actor teased. "The conversation has happened about him coming back, and maybe picking up a more fulfilling story."
"You know? With Flint and being not just Sandman, but returning to human form."
We still don't know whether Spider-Man: No Way Home's cures actually depowered the villains or, like Doctor Octopus, just gave them better control over their abilities. If Tom Holland's web-slinger is heading on a trip through the Multiverse in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, then it's possible he'll be reunited with some of the baddies he faced in 2021.
However, we also can't discount the possibility that the stage is being set for a Sinister Six project, particularly after Morbius' laughable mid-credits scene.
Elsewhere in his conversation with the site, Church revealed that his Sandman return once gave Flint more to do.
"We had a whole story involving his daughter, for No Way Home. And it just ended up [cut]," he confirms. "There was just so much going on."
Spider-Man: No Way Home was already a pretty busy movie, so this doesn't surprise us. It's also unclear whether this subplot is one that was shot or simply just discussed during the scripting stages.
