Since before the title for Spider-Man: No Way Home was even revealed, there were rumours that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield might return as their respective versions of Peter Parker from the Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man franchises. Even now, with just one day to go before the movie swings into cinemas, their possible involvement has not been confirmed in any way.
There's a chance they won't show up, but the hope among fans is that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios plan to surprise them in a big way when Spider-Man: No Way Home is shared with the world.
When we spoke to Tom Holland - the MCU's Spider-Man - earlier this month, we avoided asking the same old question about whether the two previous Spider-Men will be making an appearance. Instead, we wondered if the actor had taken any inspiration from Maguire and Garfield's movies, particularly when it comes to interacting with the returning villains in the upcoming blockbuster.
"Oh, absolutely. Absolutely, yeah," Holland enthusiastically responds in the video above. "I think before I started shooting Spider-Man: No Way Home, before the first day, I had rewatched all of their movies. I think I’ve done that for all of my Spider-Man movies. Their films are so fantastic and so rich with details that, you know, I’ve missed in the past so I go back and watch them and steal little things here and there that I love. I have definitely revisited their films."
It's great to hear that the actor not only studied Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men for this movie, but also his previous MCU appearances. There's bound to be some inspiration there, especially with Peter squaring off against familiar villains like the Green Goblin, Electro, Doctor Octopus, and The Lizard.
If Holland gets to swing into action alongside the two actors who preceded him as Spidey, it will be a bonus, but if he's proved anything over the years, it's that he's more than capable of carrying this mantle.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will exclusively be released in cinemas from December 15th!
