After it was reported that Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Studios would be ending their partnership to co-produce Spider-Man films earlier this week, fans caught an inside look at the business side of the Marvel universe as both studios engaged in a war of finger-pointing, placing the blame of the deal's untimely demise on the other party.
In the midst of all of this corporate drama, current Spider-Man star Tom Holland (
Spider-Man: Far From Home), who recently headlined the first Spider-Man film to top $1 billion worldwide, has been noticibly - and understandably - quiet about the whole complicated situation, wisely choosing not to comment on anything until more concrete details emerge and/or until the studios have time to possibly reengage in negotiation talks.
However, during his appearance with Chris Pratt (
Avengers: Endgame) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (
Veep) at the D23 Expo earlier today to promote their upcoming animated film
Onward, Holland did take a moment to address the crowd - as well as the entire Marvel fanbase - and his brief comments, which echoed Robert Downey Jr.'s final lines as Iron Man, did seemingly allude to Spider-Man's imminent exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Holland said, “
It’s been a crazy week, and I love you all from the bottom of my heart, and I love you 3000.”
