THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Star Rhys Ifans Hopes To Pit The Lizard Against Tom Hardy's Venom One Day

The Amazing Spider-Man and The King's Man star Rhys Ifans has shared his take on what makes The Lizard such an effective villain, expressing interest in Curt Connors one day facing Tom Hardy's Venom...

Rhys Ifans has been doing the rounds recently to promote The King's Man, but he remains tight-lipped about any possible involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard will appear in that movie, but is the actor voicing him? We'll see, but Inverse managed to get Ifans' thoughts on what makes the villain so great...and where he could return down the line.

"Spider Man's a great adversary to the Lizard because they're both based on creepy crawlies. Spider-Man is so deft and slight and small and nimble, and the Lizard is this hulking ball of rage. That's why they were put together in the first place, because they're a good and interesting match."

"Also, there's that father-son thing between [Dr. Curtis] Connors and Peter that's really interesting to excavate," Ifans added, sharing his take on why The Lizard is such an effective foe for Spidey.

When the site posed the question of which heroes the monstrous baddie could square off with next (Spider-Man: No Way Home marks the second time he's faced Peter Parker on the big screen), Ifans' The King's Man co-star, Djimon Hounsou, suggested Venom as a worthy opponent.

"Yeah, Venom and the Lizard," Ifans pondered. "I mean, that would be messy. Yeah."

After two movies of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock being pitted against other symbiotes, it's about time he faces some different villains. The Lizard would be a fascinating choice because the two characters have rarely crossed paths in the comic books. That's primarily because Curt Connors is part of Spider-Man's world, of course, but it would be a refreshing change of pace to see him fight Venom.

We'll see what happens, but The Amazing Spider-Man star does appear keen on revisiting the role!

Considering how cartoonish his Lizard is in NWH, this could be a pretty perfect match-up. Ifans has brilliant comedic timing and his Lizard, bar the weird looks, is pretty menacing mainly down to his voice

I'm still holding out for Venom (and thus Morbius) taking place in the Amazing Spider-Man universe. For some reason it seems like a perfect fit

@bkmeijer - yes! That’s what I’ve been thinking too! Would be cool if they continued Garfield’s Spider-Man stories with Venom and Morbius.

The guy is a great actor but Lizard has just come off boring to me so far.

Not blaming him, but the Lizard might be the lamest live-action Spider-Man movie villain. At least I could see the basic idea of TASM2's Electro working with a better script and different performance, while TASM's Lizard is mostly just generic and not very credible as the big bad (he runs away his tail between his legs after one kick from Spider-Man in his first scene!!).

I dont think he should go full monster again, it would be detractive to the whole point of No way home.

Makes sense. Both are cartoons and not the best kind

Lol I love how he barely addresses it. It's not even his idea.
"Oh yeah, that could be cool I guess"
