Spider-Man 2 was recently confirmed for a Fall 2023 release, and while we wait with bated breath for a trailer to drop, the first merchandise for the video game sequel has now been revealed by Hasbro!

Based on the web-slinger's Advanced costume, the Marvel Legends action figure is being released exclusively through Hasbro Pulse, with the articulated toes generating a fair bit of excitement among collectors (those were previously seen on the "Renew Your Vows" Spider-Man).

While the figure comes with a few accessories, there has been some controversy surrounding the decision to price it at a whopping $34.99. That's a big number for a Marvel Legends figure that only comes with two alternate hands.

"The original Web-Slinger, Peter Parker guides Miles Morales as he navigates taking up the Spider-Man mantle and learns to harness his powers," reads the official description. "This Spider-Man action figure is inspired by the character's appearance in the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 video game, and makes a great addition to any Marvel action figure collection."

"This collectible Marvel action figure comes with 7 gaming-inspired accessories, including web FX!" it continues. "Marvel fans and collectors can display this fully articulated 6-inch action figure featuring poseable head, arms, and legs, as well as character-authentic deco, in their collection."

This Spider-Man figure arrives in August. Spider-Man 2 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date, though we're hoping it will be with us by September or October at the latest (there's always a chance it could be hit with further delays depending on how well work is progressing).

Overpriced shit. I'm getting tired of hasbro, the saving grace is the x-men 97 collectibles with the vhs box

@bobevanz - But but but, what about the Transformers? They've been kicking out some really great shit there for years (take it from a life-long TF fan).

I mean, for Christ's sake we just got a comic accurate "jhiaxus" from the G2 comics and a "Tarn" from the more recent IDW comics run is due out any day and and and...

Sorry, Hasbro is doing great for me, especially as I just got my HasLab (crowd-sourced) Ghostbusters Proton-pack last week and it is every bit as amazing as you would hope it would be. I can connect it to my Neutrona wand via a smart cable and BAM! my house if officially free and clear of any and all ghosts (at least according to my little girls anyway). 😊

Not really an action figure collector but I'm so hyped for this game, the original is one of my favourite video games of all time and arguably my favourite interpretation of Spider-Man! If that suit had the classic red boots it'd be one of my favourite Spidey costumes too!

Hasbro has a greedy price rolling habit lately. Just tack on a few bucks with every new figure.

Im a Marvel Legends collector and the price for this repaint is ridiculous. Last year they made a Miles Morales Videogame figure that was brilliant with brand new sculpture and lots of accesories. And this repaint is much more expensive and with no alternate head.

I was never a fan of this suit when it debut in the first game, but it has grown on me. I still think the spider emblem might look better in black or even the same blue as the the suit? The white is a bit jarring at times.

So as someone who collects Transformers actively (obviously from Hasbro) I can shed some light on what affects the prices of these toys (and I'm only speaking about Hasbro toys).

We TF fans have been asking/wondering/complaining about the slow increase in the prices for our beloved TF's (a $15 TF 5 years ago is now around $25) and here's what I've learned it is due to:

- Obviously COVID and the resulting supply chain stuff has had a part to play in it. But Hasbro was upping their prices even before that happened

- For all kinds of reasons that I'm not going together into, Hasbro has been relocating its manufacturing facilities from China to Vietnam

- Hasbro is trying to diversify their products (TFs, Star Wars, Marvel, etc.) into different categories to appeal to different age groups of collectors, meaning that the cheaper toys are intended for the kids and the more expensive ones are geared to we older collectors. It's actually the same reasoning behind the packaging changes where (at least with TFs) they have part of the packaging open for the toys intended for their prime demographic (8-12) and closes for the more expensive TFs.

- For Hasbro, the cost of making a particular toy comes down to two main things: the parts count and the paint apps (which is how I tie this into the new Spidey figure). So it's all a balancing act (as it is with most companies that produce this sort of thing). The more parts (i.e. the more points of articulation), the higher the cost. Also, it's get's deeper as far as what parts can be produced along with others on the same plastic tree and such but I won't get into all that. Then you have the paint apps, which obviously cost money as well (there have been so many TF figs that I've had where I just wish they would have like painted the hub caps but they couldn't because they chose to use their paint budget elsewhere).

So I saw ALL THAT (sorry for being so long winded on this topic) to say that I'm pretty sure that Hasbro based it's price on this figure based on the parts count (I mean, the movable toes?) AND the paint job. Hasbro also recently developed their new joint system (basically trying to compete with Hot Toys but on a more affordable scale), which you can see in the images, but also increases the parts count.

Anyhow, I didn't mean for this post to be so long, but when it comes thaw Hasbro produces its toys and stuff, I kinda know a good amount about it so I thought that I'd share in case anyone's interested. As for this fig, I'll be waiting until Target puts it n clearance, as I do with all my Marvel Legends figs. 😊
