SPIDER-MAN 2 Will Feature A Venom Whose Primary Goal Is To Kill Peter Parker And Miles Morales

Venom will be Spider-Man 2's big bad alongside Kraven the Hunter, but if you're curious about the Symbiote's motivations, they're surprisingly simple: kill Peter Parker and Miles Morales! Check it out...

Spider-Man was a hit when it arrived in stores back in 2018, while Spider-Man: Miles Morales remains perhaps the greatest showcase of what the PlayStation 5 can do.

It's hardly surprising that there's so much hype surrounding Spider-Man 2. Insomniac Games may have taken liberties with the source material in both previous instalments, but between the incredible visuals, compelling story, and a clear respect for the comic books, it didn't ultimately matter.

The sequel is gearing up to make more big changes with Venom, as Harry Osborn is currently expected to don the alien suit (in place of Eddie Brock) to unleash the alien's terrifying powers on Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Talking at last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con (via https://www.youtube.com/embed/L5a-PxQ39Gg" title="YouTube video player" width="670"></iframe></center>">GameFragger.com), Bill Rosemann, the Vice President and Creative Director of Marvel Games, teased the villain's motivations.

"What makes Venom so scary, [is] he doesn't want to rob banks," the executive teases in the video below. "He doesn't want to take over the world, Venom wants to kill Spider-Man, [so] there's an element of fear."

Rosemann would go on to add that the Symbiote is akin to an addiction for its host, corrupting their mind and providing raw power in exchange. That's going to have a significant impact on Peter, hence why trailers have strongly hinted the web-slinger is going to head down a dark path.

The synopsis for the game reads, "Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise."

"Swing, jump and utilise the new Web Wings to travel across Marvel’s New York, quickly switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales to experience different stories and epic new powers, as the iconic villain Venom threatens to destroy their lives, their city and the ones they love."

Spider-Man 2 swings into stores on October 20.

Um...do you not understand venom? This is standard stuff. Eddie wanted revenge for Peter ruining his life, and the symbiote hated how Peter rejected him. That's why his transition into being a hero was so seamless. He's simply not much of a villain to begin with.

Maybe it's because the films are the complete opposite of that ya goof💁

@AmazingFILMporg - that is literally word for word the raimi interpretation. And as for the solo movies, it's just switching out Peter for Carlton drake.

You're acting like venom was some obscure character prior to the movies.

@Origame - People act like Venom was always this standard villain, when in reality, it's what you said. Eddie Brock wasn't some criminal robbing banks or hurting random people, or even committing any crimes when he got the suit. His one goal was getting revenge on Peter Parker. And the symbiote knew Peter was Spider-Man because it was bonded with him, and now hates him for being rejected.

It was the perfect scenario. Brock hated Peter. The symbiote hated Spider-Man. They made the perfect team to get their revenge.

But that was it. Other than killing Spider-Man, he was basically an anti-hero. But he believed he was justified in wanting to kill Spider-Man because he viewed him as a villain.

@CorndogBurglar - exactly. Hell, in the comics he lost his job because he was convinced he was right about who sin eater was, and that he was bringing him to justice. Spiderman proved it wasn't him and that's what caused him to lose his job.

Not saying Eddie was in the right, but he was actively trying to do the right thing. And of course, the symbiote fed into his understandable anger against Spiderman.

I really don't get why this misconception came to be. Both the 90s Spiderman cartoon and spectacular Spiderman followed this general concept of just wanting to kill Spiderman. The raimi film did this as well, though being willing to hurt others to achieve that. The only instance of him being the villain who would take over the city or other crimes as his goal is web of shadows. And that's hardly the most popular interpretation of the character.

@Origame - It's also present in some other comics like Reign granted it's only the symbiote trying to do that and Eddie is nowhere to be seen in those cases

Why do they keep acting this misterious when they already made it clear Harry is this Venom?
Still think it is a mistake to have Venom, specially if it is Harry, to want to kill Miles too...we'll see how it works, after the first game, they earned the confidence.

Is that not pretty much the goal of Venom in most post Symbiote storylines? Ruin his life, make him suffer, then kill him is like Venoms whole deal at first
Mikell
Mikell - 7/29/2023, 12:47 AM
I get why the symbiote may want Spidey dead. And, if Miles helps get Peter free, I could see why it would want him dead too. But Harry seems to be a friend to Peter in the trailer. But what if instead of doing what we expect with Norman Osbourne becoming the Green Goblin, he ends up dying instead? It would be a fresh take and if it happened during Kraven's hunt, Harry may blame Spider-Man for killing his dad. Especially if it happens when Peter is being reckless. Just a thought.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/29/2023, 12:50 AM
@Mikell - It's a good thought. Harry is going to need some type of justification for wanting to kill Peter/Spider-Man. So there must be some typenof even that causes that. Because even in the first game Harry and Peter are clearly friends, even thoughnwe never actually see Harry in it.
Origame
Origame - 7/29/2023, 11:49 AM
@Mikell - I still think Harry being venom is a misdirect. The only indication is the tank and the "heal the world" line. But in the tank it didn't fully bond with him, and it's so weird to give that line and make it super obvious it's Harry when it's actually someone else.

It's hilarious to see Miles catching Peter's strays. The best part of Venom is that Spider-Sense doesn't work, creating a sense of horror and genuine unsettlement. It's going to be wild swinging through New York and venom just pops up out of nowhere and knocks you down.
