Sam Raimi Touts a Connection Between Spider-Man 4 and Venom Spin-Off

When the Venom Spin-off movie is released, will there be any connection with the "Spider-Man 4" universe? It seems Sam Raimi doesn't believe there will be.

Venom's character was revealed in "Spider-Man 3" in 2007...well sort of, because everyone has agreed he was thrown in at the last minute to adhere to the studio executives. This explains the horrible adaption of the villain. With his new spin-off film being released, eventually, it seems there won't be any connection between both universes when "Spider-Man 4" is released.

Thanks to MTV news for the audio clip.

Whispers68: There's not much to the audio clip. Apparently the direction of the Venom spin-off won't create a bridge so to speak. It won't pick up/show some sort of connection with "Spider-Man 4" or what took place in "Spider-Man 3." Not major news, but news nonetheless.

For those of you who like me cant see this because you dont live in the US here is what Raimi is saying...

"It hasn't come up to me," Raimi told MTV News when asked if the two characters will share a movie universe after Venom's introduction in "Spider-Man 3."

"I think that the studio is just letting me work with the writers and trying to make the best stories possible for this universe," he added. "I don't know if Venom is a separate universe or not."

This really makes you appreciate Marvel Studios and the one movie universe they are trying to create.

I say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO connection!!!

If VENOM is to be a good movie it cant be CONNECTED to RAIMI'S SPIDEY UNIVERSE!

It should be a STAND ALONE movie!!!

With KNEPPER as CARNAGE!! ; D

TEABAG @ I'm more interested in a VENOM movie than SPIDEY 4 lol!! ; D

Dont get me wrong, i love the SPIDEY movies, but a solo VENOM has been floating around HOLLYWOOD since SPIDEY 1 and all they managed was a sh!Te rush job in SPIDEY 3!!

And why does it have to wait? Theres no connection thank god! We'll get a decent VENOM on the big screen!! I say bring it on!!!

the less connection, the better.

I say that they could connect Spiderman 3 with the new Venom movie.

Only as in the end of SM 3 is shown with Venom. Right before Spidey launched the grenage at the Symbiote, a piece of it breaks off before it gets vaporized with the rest of Eddie Brock.

Its falls and salvages itself from certain doom, piecing itself back together until it is whole when it finds a new host.

(The only reason why I say use it is to show that the symbiote is here on earth and it is a survivor.

Then you can actually get away with starting over from scratch with someone new. You can't use Eddie nor Peter except for the fact that they would be linked to the symbiote during their time.

Then through that, the new Venom changes and then do the slow build and separation into Carnage for what would ultimately lead up to the third act face off between the two.

I agree-Robert Knepper for Carnage/Cleatus Cassidy.

However, for some odd reason, I think that for the new Venom. I think that Vin Diesel would awasome to face off against Knepper.

But that's just me.

LEE: Hey, Purcell was my choice for Venom!!! I cast him 6 months ago in my Spider-Man Fan Cast! :D

Anyway, I now think that there's a better choice for Venom out there - Purcell looks the part but he showed in Blade that he doesnt make a convincing villain! He was great in Prison break though!

As for Carnage, Knepper is a good choice but a bit too old now - they need someone younger otherwise the movie will be a Prison Break reunion, lol!

I say Venom shouldn't be connected to the box office. I like the character, just not as a stand alone anti-hero. To me, it's like Wolverine. I'm not as big of a wolverine fan when he's doing his own shit (although the Japan saga needs to be done). I like him as a part of X-men and i like Venom as a part of Spidey's "entourage".

Josh- Although Ben Foster would be an excellent Electro, he certainly has the chops to pull off a kick ass/young Carnage! Just give him red hair and let him go apeshit :) Sam Rockwell would also have been a stellar Cleatus!!!

Other than Emo Spidey I liked Spider-Man 3 alot.

Shaman: Thats a great idea actually! Though it was sort of comedic, Ben Foster played a great "nutcase" type character in an episode of My Name is Earl so I could see him pulling that off - his performance in 30 Days of Night was pretty creepy so he'd have that aspect of the character sewn up as well!

teabag: Lol! Remember, LEE cast a guy off an Aero ad for Captain America so Purcell's acting past is a huge step up! :D

Shaman:

I see that working really well! But if he were Carnage, who else could play Electro..?

JOSH @ Your going back on yourself, you said they would work well together on screen, now your saying what i said to you lol!!

As for PURNELL i think everyone has cast him over the past friggin' year. But I like KNEPPER much more as CARNAGE than PURNELL as VENOM, if one had to go it would be PURNELL!!

JOSH @ So you want the guy whos been ANGEL and in PUNISHER as well as you want him as ELECTRO as CARNAGE too???!!!! LMFAO man!!! Lazy casting, pick different actors atleast!

; D

ROBERT KNEPPER only choice!!

Actually @ MULTI @ BORIGINS was the worst idea, especially done by FOX!!!

Cant wait for VENOM, gonna be [frick]ing fantastic!!!

JOSHW24@ Denis Leary for Electro!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 10/22/2009, 7:42 AM
LEE: I didnt cast him as Angel (which was a terrible choice) and his part was so small in Punisher I can barely remember it! And I want him as either Electro or Carnage! READ before you COMMENT!

The problem is two actors who were on a TV show together arent going to be cast together in the same film! MULTI is right - a Venom movie is as bad an idea as the Magneto movie! Neither of these have any point to them!

He would make a great horror franchise, up there with Freddy, Myers, Lector, an Jason if not better!!

JOSH @ Thats what i argued with you about, when you wanted them both an i only wanted KNEPPER lmao, man, you've just gone back on yourself with everything you said in the past about the screen magic they both have together lol!!!

And that dude didn't have a small part in PUNISHER?? WTF lol.

Well josh, i always said Wentworth Miller would be an awesome Electro. Or... i always thought it. LOL :P I say Ben should go for the part that comes up first. Either Electro or Carnage. Either way, a Venom movie is that last [frick]ing thing i want right now.

Whispers68 - 10/22/2009, 11:11 AM
Maybe it's just me, but i would prefer only one villain this time around

I highly doubt carnage will ever make the film and as for the Kraven character...I could be wrong, but Raimi seems to be the kinda guy who likes characters being extraordinary in the "power" realm and Kraven looks like your average human being...yes I know his physical strengths due to the Voodoo lover of his were enhanced to be on par with Spider-Man, but physically Raimi seems to want a character that comes off as much different than us (Venom, Sandman, Dr Oc)
