This is surprising news. With Marc Webb back in the director's seat for
The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Sony Pictures are preparing the casting process for the film (which will begin production early next year). According to
Variety, Shailene Woodley (who previously starred in
The Descendants) is in early talks to play none other than Mary Jane Watson. The character, who is the most well known love interest of Peter Parker, was played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi's
Spider-Man trilogy. Woodley is said to be the studio's leading choice for the coveted role. Sony are also looking for an actor to play Harry Osborn (previously played by James Franco), Parker's best friend.
Additionally, the rumored villain for the currently untitled sequel is Electro. Many have been wondering who the sequel's villain will be since the first movie's post-credits scene, which featured Michael Massee in an unspecified role. However, since production doesn't begin for a few more months, there's still plenty to decide which villain will take on Spider-Man in his next big screen outing. The film was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. Be sure to stay tuned to CBM for more news for the film.
The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.
