SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Is Sick Of Taking The Blame For Warner Bros.' Changes To The Movie

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has hit back at those who criticise him for that movie based on the changes made by Warner Bros., while James Gunn has come under fire for an unfortunate Twitter "Like."

You only need to look at the trailers for proof that the version of Suicide Squad we saw in theaters wasn't what director David Ayer originally had planned for the DC Comics adaptation. The response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice led to Warner Bros. ordering extensive reshoots which completely changed the story and tone (oh, and the ending to boot).

Now, with everyone talking about The Suicide Squad, Ayer has taken to social media to make it clear that he's had enough of coming under fire for a version of the movie he simply didn't want.

In related news, James Gunn has come under fire from many fans on social media after liking a Tweet in which Suicide Squad is described as a "piece of sh*t" and Ayer's work is dismissed as not being as good as Gunn's. Chances are he only liked it because the person was defending the casting of Peter Davidson, but, honestly, this isn't a great look!

Just like the fabled "Snyder Cut" of Justice League, it's highly unlikely that we'll ever get to see the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad, but it is interesting to think about those deleted scenes that are sitting on a cutting room floor somewhere (remember that The Joker was set to battle Task Force X at the end of the movie and his relationship with Harley Quinn was going to be very different).

Tell us, what are your thoughts on these remarks from the filmmaker about the 2016 release?

Well, Suicide Squad was a piece of shit and James Gunn is a better director. Plus, Suicide Squad was entirely bad. There was nothing salvageable about it. I doubt Warner Bros. did an entire top to bottom refurbish of the film, which means it would've been awful regardless of their changes.

'Member back when he said it was his cut?
Ayer and McQuarrie exposing WB this year has been very satisfying.
Also, Harley Quinn Updates can suck it.

So James Gunn is under fire again for something he did on social media?

Sigh. When will famous people learn that Social Media, especially Twitter, is not a good thing? We live I time when someone is always going to be offended or take something you say/do the wrong way. And unfortunately, it puts the person that said it in a bad position.

You would think that after his last social media incident Gunn would have enough sense to just stay away.

huh, it's almost as if nobody else who is active on Twitter knows that "liking" an individual tweet doesn't always automatically literally mean you liked everything about that tweet, but that it's the only way to bookmark it for yourself. Aside from actually creating a browser bookmark for all those tweets, and hey that's just super practical and efficient.

I have "liked" a tweet that was published by someone I can't stand, but when there's even one tiny detail of information I'd like to have later referenceable for myself on a particular subject.
AND SO HAS LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE WHO USES TWITTER WITH ANY SORT OF REGULARITY.

If this is even a "real", legit thing, and Wilding isn't helping to amplify maybe about 6 people are bitching because of how empty their lives are (this is entirely possible), this is a perfect goddamn reason why I hate people.

Then maybe he shouldn't have insisted the theatrical cut was his.

@Reeds2Much - he was professional and didn't want to be next Josh Trank. And hat down for that.

Suicide Squad was a shit movie, and Gunn is very much allowed to feel that way, because many of us do. Stop holding these people to ridiculous standards.

LMAO at Ayer being sick and tired of taking the blame for Suicide Squad being shit. We all knew the final cut wasn't his and yet he repeatedly said it was. In a way I don't blame him. Look at what being honest did to Josh Trank.

The SDCC teaser was the best part. It all went downhill from there.

@DrRichards

Its not actually not anything crazy or that he should catch crap over, man.

But in this age, the last thing I would do is have a Twitter account if I was famous. Technically you don't even need to do anything wrong and people will find SOMETHING to take offense to.

It's just an unnecessary risk of getting bad publicity.

@MadKingCypher

Oh I agree man. Gunn did nothing wrong. Unfortunately you don't need to do anything wrong these days. That being the case, why even take the risk? Why even bother with Twitter at this point? It almost cost him his career once for something that people absolutely could have taken offense to, even if he only meant what he said as a joke.

So why bother anymore? Its just not worth it. Someone will always find ways to misinterpret things and be offended by it.

@ CaptCoulson

You're absolutely right. But unfortunately the public doesn't know why you Liked the comment. So if the comment says that Ayer's Suicide Squad was a piece of crap, and Gunn Likes the comment, most people will take that to mean he thought Ayer did Sinbad job also.

Which is totally fine. I couldn't care less if Gunn feels that way. Most people do lol.

But I can also see the flip side and how that isn't exactly a good look for Gunn, or any director. Directors criticizing another director's work is something you rarely see and there is a reason for that. Praising a other Director's work is another story entirely. But criticizing? Nah. You don't really see it. Especially criticizing a Director who directed a film that you are now making the sequel for. Because now, what if Gunn's Suicide Squad does terribly? Now he looks like a real asshole cor criticizing Ayer lol.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah but, I still think it's ultimately disingenuous of all those people who have a "problem" with it. cause like I said, we all know there's different reasons to "like" a tweet, so there's plenty of reasonable doubt here. As usual, these are the kind of people who are looking for a reason to be upset. Gunn could've simply even just found the way the thing was worded to be kinda funny, not like he's straight up endorsing the idea and validity of the movie to be called shitty.
I mean, if a public figure were to 'like' a tweet of someone else where that someone else is like unironically saying "ya know, the whole 'white power' thing, these people are maybe just a little misunderstood so lets really widely hear them out", okay then for THAT the liker of the tweet can be justifiably called out for making a legit troubling decision, but somebody just joking that if another movie is bad (even if the liker is now doing something with that property himself), gimme a goddamn break.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that the girl who made the Suicide Squad tweet is a Pornstar?

I figured that is why Gunn liked the tweet.

I mean...out of all the folks to put their hat into the ring? Lol

There's a ton about Suicide Squad that was really good (not including anything with Leto's Joker), but about midway through you could see it starting to derail. WB's studio interference is the problem. Without a clear vision before cameras start rolling they can't expect to create a connected cinematic universe.

Dont know why Gunn came under fire for stating a fact. The movie was straight up shite !

There was also a bit of backlash from the 30STM cult and general Leto fans about Gunn not including Leto in the new movie, and Vincent "The Kingpin" (won't even try to murder his last name) got some hate from fans for a tweet about it.
Like this people haven't seen or don't remember Gunn implied Leto is a pedo over on Twitter, there's no way in hell those 2 would ever work together.
