AMERICAN SUPERMAN: THE DUEL Doc Celebrating The Late Hero Plays Tomorrow At The L.A. Shorts Festival

The L.A. Shorts Festival takes place tomorrow, spotlighting plenty of entertainment to come. Regarding superheroes, there is one particular project that comic and D.C. fans might want to look out for.

American Superman: The Duel will screen tomorrow for the first time. While American Superman is a full documentary, The Duel is a short that is being released prior to the film's completion.

Focusing on and celebrating the life of the late Chris Dennis, also known as "Hollywood Superman," the feature-length documentary tells the story of how an average American experienced ups and downs while providing daily happiness to many people.

The documentary also focuses on Dennis's troubles with drugs and prison during his homelessness, and how his fans supported and encoraged him to return. We all experience problems in one form or another, and the short premiering tomorrow, The Duel, is just a taste of a documentary that shows the life of an ordinary guy becoming a superhero and refusing to give up.

The director had the following to say about the project. "My plan is to finish and present "AMERICAN SUPERMAN" to the entire world so people can see the life and struggles of this extraordinary guy whose childhood was very brutal and instead of becoming a bad person, he chose to be a better man and became Superman.

His goal was to always help and entertain people and make them smile and be happy. But as any other entertainer, he didn't have much for himself since he spent all of his energy on other people. When Chris was out of his costume, he would turn into that abandoned and abused kid. He was fighting his demons - the mental illness and drug addiction. I want people to see this story because Superman has always been the symbol of hope, and I want people to have that hope back."

What are your thoughts on this project and the director's comments? Will you be tuning in, or are you skipping the event?

Christopher Dennis is a Hollywood Superman working on Hollywood Blvd for over 25 years. In the morning, he wakes up in his trashy poor apartment and gets an eviction notice from the manager. He doesn’t even have food in his fridge, however, he continues his routine – he dresses up as Superman and goes to the Hollywood boulevard to portray his dream character.

There is Oscar’s preparation going on at Dolby Theater and Christopher hopes to make some tips with curious tourists. He ends up meeting famous Italian actor Franco Nero and hopes that this successful man can give him a large tip.

American Superman: The Duel plays tomorrow at the L.A. Shorts Festival.

Damn. I hate he didn't get a chance to get his flowers while he could smell them.

An interesting project, I hope this is done well.

@VictorAlonzo - Man, that's how I felt about Stan Lee and Endgame. He made it through 22 movies and missed the finale to the Infinity Saga. Really unfortunate.

@LiteraryJoe - He is officially the Moses of MARVEL comics.

He got us out of Timely, took us to imaginative depths beyond comparasion, and crossed over to the next dimension before walking with us into the greatness.

It is a poetic conclusion to an amazing journey.

That sounds like a really compelling story. First time I actually hear about it though, which by the sounds of it is a disservice to the man.

I used to see him walking around Hollywood Blvd. Super nice guy, such a sad story.
