Henry Cavill On The Fact That Lois Will Know Clark's Secret In The MAN OF STEEL Sequel

Of course we now know that sequel will involve a certain other major player, but some time will have to be devoted to the central relationship from the first movie too. Where does Cavill see things for Clark and Lois in the next film now that she knows his true identity?

Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel differs from previous screen incarnations of the character in quite a few ways, but probably most significantly in the Clark/Lois relationship. In this movie Lois knows where Supes hangs his cape, and at the end when Clark starts work at the Daily Planet she is obviously perfectly aware of his new "secret identity". So where does this leave their dynamic in the next movie? io9 asked Henry Cavill what he thinks about the fact that Lois knows Clark's secret moving forward.

"I think it's essential. Because if we're trying to base it reality, there's no way that Lois has these direct interactions with Superman, and then doesn't recognize Clark sitting next to her in the office. If she falls in love with Superman, and she's ignoring a guy who looks just like Superman, behaves just like him, and has the same kind of mannerisms and behavior, then what does that say about Lois? I like this relationship. She saves him just as much as he saves her."

Cavill adds that although the final few minutes of Man Of Steel may have been lighter in tone to the rest of the movie, doesn't mean we should necessarily expect that to carry over to the sequel. He says that we might get some "gallows humor", but that "when it comes to something like a threat to the planet, and people that he loves, it's not necessarily something you want to take lightly.". I'm really glad they changed that.

It was pretty stupid, made Lois look like an idiot.

Yeah I glad they have Lois knowing so early on.

Besides the fact it avoids the problem of her not recognising him, it also means she can be an asset in hiding his secret. She can send out false leads, make up fake stories, say Clark was with her when he wasn't etc.

it was a good change, but Man of Steel had the weakest love story of a comic book movie in a long time.

Superman/Clark's relationship with Lois is an iconic relationship that is fairly easy to do on screen. Man of Steel didn't do it justice at all.

I'm fine with her knowing. But that kiss in the first one felt forced as hell!

Superman's relationship was the worst part of MOS. Should have left it out.

No, they should have devoted more time to it! I'd have taken one less skyscraper scrap for one more scene setting up that out-of-nowhere kiss any day.

Gwen and Peter in TAS and Bruce and Betty in TIH were one of the best comicbook love stories.

I agree. It was a smart decision, imo.

Cant wait for the sequel and to see Supes and Batman on the big screen for the very first time. Will be awesome!

good thing that they didn't bring all the nonsense and cheesiness from the previous movies. I never understood why she and others didn't know superman was clark kent and vice and versa. sometimes I think its impossible to hide the indentidy of batman and spiderman forever, even with the mask.
CrimsonFlash
CrimsonFlash - 7/28/2013, 12:28 PM
I bet Superman had roughly the same amount of screen time with lois as he did with that wildly random priest.

"Clark should have total different mannerisms then Superman! He should talk different, stand different, sit different and so on. When the glasses go on he should have a total different type of mannerism! Not be the same character in and out of the Superman suit!"

he should also paint himself black and dye his hair blonde and have a mustache. only way to disguise without a mask.

I dressed up in costumes before in some Halloween parties and even once in Christmas as santa and the only people I tricked were the 6 years old and below kids. unless you have some kind of mental retardation its impossible to not assume clark is superman.

@nubase I guess character interaction is pointless? It was the main fault of this movie. Too much action and poor character development.

Thor got some criticism for he and Jane falling in love after a couple of days. (What no one heard of love at first sight?). But Clark and Lois after one very businesslike interview are in love. Mariko and Wolvie after couple of days are in love. I just hope they make Lois more likeable. Speaking of which did the rest of you notice how much of a hateful bitch they made Jean Grey in all of Wolvie's dream sequences?

Another great answer by Cavill! It is true, when you love someone, it would be kind of hard to not recognize them in a disguise that still shows their face. That would mean that either she doesn't love him in that special way or she is just completely stupid, and Lois is neither one.

This is one change in the movie that I didn't even blink to. It was done smoothly and perfectly. Even as a purist, I had no problems with this at all and am very curious to see how they develop their relationship!

@Nubase If they want us to have clark and lois kiss, they should at least make it feel real. If not, what's the point?

I love this take on the dynamic. Lois knowing his secret right from the start. I'm sure in the future we'll get the old dynamic but it's a nice change and one that I'm all for.

Ror is spot on I would've liked an extra scene or two between those guys than more destruction porn.

I wonder if she will find out that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Or maybe they'll go the direction of Batman as an urban legend, and they don't even believe in him.

The kiss was so forced, it looked like brother and sister kissing. And don't get me started on what she said after.
GizmoEl

@ror, i completely agree.

TASM had the best love story for a cbm, and honestly.. there wasn't much time dedicated to it. I liked Thor and Jane's romance, it was quick but it didn't feel forced at all. Pepper and Tony was great, Bruce and Betty were amazing. I wasn't a fan of Bruce and Rachel's relationship, or Bruce or Talia, but it wasn't too bad. Steve and Peggy had the best written romances in the MCU (tony and pepper come in second)

I LOVE that Clark will not be a bumbling idiot the way Donner thought he should be. The change of hair style, glasses and oversized shirt should hide his identity just fine. If Clark acts like a clumbsy fool it would just add more attention to him, not detract him! Just like Dexter was taught, the best way is to BLEND IN, not STAND OUT!

And I also love how he said that Lois will help him just as much as he helps her. *tear* That's beautiful! :')
