Kryptonian Underwear are MEANT TO BE WORN on the OUTSIDE!

Why is that you say? Try it, try it, and like it you just may. This article is for those of you that feel that Superman's Iconic look has come under siege. Threatened by the plague of "everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn't he?".

Why am I writing this article? Why am I calling your attention out to something as silly as underwear? But not just to anyone's underwear...this happens to concern the preservation of this iconic figures individual look from the rest of them.

Just yesterday when we signed on to CBM.COM we were pleasantly surprised to see what we had all been waiting for regarding anything SUPERMAN. We saw A FIRST LOOK OF HENRY CAVILL AS THE NEW MAN OF STEEL.

As we continued to look at it and look at it and even look at it three or four more times we asked questions one to another about several things. Where's the S curl? Why does he have a rubber suit on? Is the Shield on the cape? Why is he robbing a bank? etc. Yet, nobody really asked "where are the red underoos?" and I think it's because when it was announced that there was a first image of the new suit, it was altogether assumed that the red underpants were NOT THERE simply because they could not be seen at first glance.

However, this article is for those of you that feel that Superman's Iconic look has come under siege. Threatened by the plague of "everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn't he?". So I'm here to show you why I believe that the RED UNDERroos have not gone astray but may still be here to stay. Here is my proof after brightening the picture almost to its max and I found that there is a difference in color (red) between that of his leg and crotch area.

Why yes, it does looks like they are staying true to the look while modernizing the suit on other ways (the suits material). To me the evidence currently shows that Nolan/Snyder have the red roos in place BUT have purposely made it dark in that area to see what kind of reaction the image will receive once revealed to the public eye.

Does it concern me that this controversial image could in the end reveal that Superman is not wearing his red roos? YES IT DOES, because to me its not a question of whether or not they are currently in place. Evidence to this matter has been seen. My concern is that at this point they could still go either way with the costume design since they are not currently visible in the lighting that was provided.

My hope is that when he comes out of that vault and stands straight up to prepare for take off that the image we see is in the likeness of what we see in the following image.

Everyone here at CBM is great and I for one really enjoy doing articles that present real concerns that exist in the CBM community... and while none of these things that are argued about are things that would change our lives for the better or for the worse....they certainly are regarding topics that help us escape reality if not but for a small moment. Thanks for reading and please take the poll at the bottom of the page.

@thegdsuperguy.....why would you have to put undies on ZOD? he didnt have them in Superman2.

@GDSUPERGUY- Actually what i like about Henry's Super-suit is the fact that is it subtly...sort of like armor but yet it's not at the same time. That scaly material look like chain-mail if I'm not mistaken.

He doesn't need armor obviously...but it just adds to the appearance of Supes in this movie actually looking like more of a badass for a change, while still retaining the basics and staying true to the classic.

As for the underpants I don't care either way. We've had 5 movies with him in underpants. If they ditch it this time around, I won't miss it.

@naterator- Yep nor has Zod ever worn underpants in the comics either.

If you put undies on Supes, Zod still won't have to.

I feel neutral on the panties situation.

I don't think he's wearing the underpants though. I mean...Snyder kept it hidden for a reason. I'm thinking that reason must be that this will be the first time on screen we will see an under-less Superman...so maybe Snyder will reveal that in another picture down the road...

but for now he wants to keep it a mystery.

If his Superman had panties on...there wouldn't have been a reason for Snyder to keep it hidden...if i'm mistaken (which I usually am and i'm betting 99% that i am wrong) then...ok. lol

I have seen the S curl, if you tried to zoom in the image and do some tweaks with the image, you will see the thin S curl of Henry.. :)

They are ways to make his trunks added to his costume without it looking "outdated" as everyone keeps complaining about. I, for one, want to see the briefs one last time on screen since he'll be changed anyway this September. Without it, there will be too much blue for the overall body suit. I really want to know where's his S curl? He teased it for 2011 Comic-Con, so why not for the actual Superman pose?

thanks for your comments guys....

@LP4 yeah i dont know what the whole undies and superman has to do with zod....i do hope that they kkeep it classic tho and i think that its a controversial photo specifically made to see what everyone thinks...because i think that he is wearing them now....just with the lighting they still have a chance to remove them if they feel they want to without anybody really noticing.

@zhonghua....cool stuff man...im glad the S curl seems to be there....yeah i wasnt falling prey to the idea that his hair would be slicked back...that wouldnt be very SUPER IMO.

@XENIX...sorry man,,,,i dont really go to other websites ...i just notice what i see here.

I agree on keeping the costume iconic and classic. It was just a publicity photo(shop) not the actual film. Maybe he will wear them. Maybe you guys are focusing too much on Supes' crotch, tho! haha

I don't know.

I'm one for staying true to the comic book, but this aesthetically does not look good.

I don't even like it when hipster kids think they are taking a cue from European fashion walking in their Speedos. In these modern times, red granny panties aren't becoming on anyone.

My stance is neutral I guess. If he has to wear it, so be it. Just no thongs.

@naterator- Great article man.

@GDSuperguy- I don't think naterator was implying that all kryptonians wear their underwear on the outside.

@scionstorm- Hahahaha you've become quite the celebrity on this article.

@knighstalker- I'll take a shot ;P

Superman was the first of his kind. He is the most iconic superhero to ever been created and he deserves the suit he was originally designed with. The history of the underwear on the outside of the pants comes from the way weightlifters and strong men were depicted before Superman was even thought of. Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel realized that if Superman had underwear on the outside of pants, he too would fall under the category of “Strong man” thus portraying him SUPER.
No Shorts = No Super
No Super = No Superman
KEEP THE UNDERWEAR!

I feel like there is too much weight put on the wrong thing with superman. I love superman, but the underwear and spit curl aren't necessary, they are comforting. I can dig his hair being a bit looser, but it's not a deal breaker. if we are getting a bit of a more hard nosed bruiser this time i can let it go. the underwear was always silly to me its not a bad thing that they are going.
and the poll question is biased in its wording, theres no getting around it..so i guess "seep" away.

I always thought it was ridiculous to wear your underwear on the outside. . . unless of course as part of some elaborate head dress. :P
