MAN OF STEEL: Zack Snyder On The Possibility Of His 2013 Superman Movie Getting A Director's Cut

Zack Snyder's Justice League is heading to HBO Max in 2021, but what about the filmmaker's first foray into the DCEU? Snyder addresses the possibility of a Man of Steel director's cut in a new interview.

The "Snyder Cut" of Justice League is finally heading to HBO Max next year, and we've already seen an "Ultimate Edition" of Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice - but what about the movie that marked Zack Snyder's first entry in the shared world that's since come to be known as the DC Films Universe?

Man of Steel introduced a new take on Superman (Henry Cavill) and laid the groundwork for what would follow in Warner Bros.' "DCEU." The film was only moderately successful and received mixed reviews from critics, but for many fans, it remains one of the stronger entries in the franchise.

So, would Snyder ever consider revisiting Man of Steel to add some extra content for a director's cut? It seems unlikely, because he's perfectly happy with how the theatrical version turned out.

"There were only a few scenes that we deleted. It wasn't anything that I think would change the movie," the filmmaker explained during an interview with Film Junkee. "That movie is pretty much... it is what it is, and I love it. It's kind of exactly the size that it was, for me, that I wanted it to be."

What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a director's cut of Man of Steel?

Zack Snyder's Justice League will debut as a 4-episode event series on HBO Max in 2021. You can find out where the theatrical version and Man of Steel placed on our DCEU movie ranking below.

Aquaman

Aquaman tops billion-dollar benchmark thanks to international sales

You probably weren't expecting to see this at the bottom of the list! I'm completely aware that I'm in the minority here, but James Wan's hokey farce of an Aquaman movie did nothing for me at all.

Arthur Curry's first solo film almost falls over itself in an attempt to change the perception that the DCEU was too "dark and depressing." Wan's movie is bright, colorful (garish, really), and tries to inject a sense of fun and old-fashioned adventure into pretty much every scene. Unfortunately, it forgets to include little things like compelling characters and an engaging story along the way.

The script is perfunctory, the performances range from passable to outright egregious (seriously, where did they find the kid that played teenage Arthur?), and almost every line of dialogue is either exposition, an eye-rolling cliche or some brotastic, juvenile one-liner.

I did laugh several times during this movie, but it definitely wasn't at any of the "jokes."

On the plus side, Aquaman does feature some stunning visuals and brilliantly creative creature designs, all of which come together for a pretty damn bonkers finale - though by that stage I was on my second watch check.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - same, him being so self aware and down to earth is an uncommon sight.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Did we really just see Snyder use restraint?

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Don't be fooled. He is going to suggest not doing it, hoping that the Snyder faithful fuel his overblown ego by DEMANDING a directors cut of both MoS and BvS. When it truth Warners should just reboot and try again.

@pclark - Wow why do you all hate him so much? I have yet to see something he says or anything that makes him seem like an asshole, I’ve always wondered why people shit on him so much? Is it just because you dislike his films, he does have passion for what he does gotta respect that atleast, probably the only Hollywood director that really communicates and involves himself with his fans, more so than James Gunn who does some of that too. I disagree with a LOT of his decisions and stuff but he’s never come across as a egotistical, douche bag to me, he seems pretty cool.

@JohnCastillo - I don't hate the man per say. I strongly believe he is not as talented as people think. His is a one trick pony, and he mined the most famous Batman and Superman stories for story elements for his BvS film, effectively shutting down the possibility of anyone else adapting those stories if the DCEU were to continue. Since then the studio has retconned to allow for a multiverse model, opening that door again. But as a creative, I find his style to be all surface, no substance.

@JohnCastillo - I don't "hate" him, but he has come off as an asshole a few times. "Once you've lost your virginity to my film..." type of thing.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - He actually spoke about that 😂 says “due to rights they couldn’t do it, but who knows maybe in the future”.. I haven’t seen Sucker Punch though, so can’t say anything about it.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - It's his best film, but considering he just did a scene for scene copy and paste, really any praise should go to Alan Moore and Dave Gibons.

Also the execution could have been better, he kind of missed the point of the book

@dracula - My humble opinion: Captain Marvel was crap, Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Legends of the Guardians and Man of Steel were good fun films, BvS and Justice League, major disappointments. So yeah to me there’s no way in hell I’d rather watch Captain Marvel than any Snyder film.

@JohnCastillo - Dont think Captain Marvel is anything great either, at best okay, but really id say some of snyder's stuff is Fant4stic bad, specifically Sucker Punch and the standard cut of BVS.

Watchmen was ten years ahead of its time. It was the original “The Boys”

@dracula - You’re being a bit harsh on the copy and paste, it could have turned out awful. He actually made it an enjoyable film to watch. I really like his Watchmen, it would have been a masterpiece had it come out in the 80s because the messages of that story were all about nuclear weapons, cold war etc. But I really like Zack’s Watchmen.

For some reason I watched the MOS teaser trailers yesterday and reminded me of how incredible that movie could’ve been.

[frick] I was hyped for that movie when it came out.
