Matthew Vaughn Wanted Mark Millar To Team Up With Him For MAN OF STEEL 2

Matthew Vaughn is being eyed by Warner Bros. to take the helm of Man of Steel 2 but comic book writer Mark Millar has now revealed that the filmmaker turned to him for help - here's why it didn't happen.

Matthew Vaughn has collaborated with comic book writer Mark Millar on a number of adaptations, including Kick-Ass and the Kingsman movies. The scribe is no stranger to the DC Universe despite the fact that most of his work has been for Marvel or independently and it's now been revealed that Vaughn actually asked Millar if he would be willing to come and work with him on Man of Steel 2.

We've known for a while that Warner Bros. is interested in Vaughn taking charge of that project and while he's mulling over a number of DC Comics adaptations, he sounds particularly keen on reinventing Superman. Unfortunately, Millar has explained why he could say yes to his friend's surprising offer.

"He and I are massive Superman fans. I mean, we worship Richard Donner. We love the Christopher Reeve movies. He actually phoned me up a few months ago, and he said, “Hey, listen, DC, they’re very interested in me doing Man of Steel 2. Do you want to come in and do this?’ And I was like, ‘I’m exclusive to Netflix for years. We can’t even have that conversation.’ And he was like, ‘Oh, man. What’s the chances of this?’ And then he kind of drifted away. And he’s attached himself to a couple of things and all that. Y’know so, it’s one of those things that might, I mean — if somebody phones Matthew up and offers him enough money it could all change tomorrow."

Netflix bought Millarworld earlier this year and that clearly means Millar is now tied up with creating new content for them. If Vaughn does wind up working on Man of Steel 2, there's a chance he'll collaborate with Jane Goldman instead but it's hard to think of anyone better to breathe new life into Superman after Joss Whedon set the stage for a more comic accurate version in Justice League.

What are you hoping to see from Vaughn in the DC Films Universe? Let us know in the usual place.
