Over the past couple of months during interviews about his role as Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, the star of 2006's Superman Returns has expressed his desire to repise the role of the DC comic book hero again and again.

He's clearly keen on donning the tights and cape but was quick to tell the interviewer it's a decision that's out of his hands. "I don't know, that's up in the air," the actor said when asked whether there's a chance he'll return as the Man of Steel in the upcoming reboot. "I'm sure we'll find out in the future - I certainly would love to return to my character but it's not within my power."

Routh was quick to praise the writer of the reboot and director of both Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and the currently untitled Batman 3. "I think he could bring a lot of reality and a lot of creativity. He's a fantastic director and has a lot of psychological thoughts. He's very intellectual in his films, and makes you think beyond what's just on the surface, a lot of undertones."

And what kind of Superman movie does he think Nolan will deliver? Well, it's the same thing that many of us have been hoping for after the not so brilliant take on the character by Bryan Singer: "It could be a very deep and action-packed Superman." Well said! Would you like to see him return to the role though? Share your thoughts in the usual place!

i loved the Donner movies and wouldn't mind him coming back as he reminded me so much of reeves. But if they went with a more public enemy styled superman i would not mind. Routhboot to me is the way to go

I likedhim... thought he looked the part and was almost perfect in the role. He should at least be considered, would be a shame if he wasn't.

I wana see a dark, gritty superman! I know it's out of keeping with the whole childhood charm of the Superman films but it would be awesome to see it get dark and duuurty!

whats this guy going to say "no, i dont want to be in a blockbusters movie as a character i love". do people keep asking him this question expecting a new answer?

I wouldn't mind him re-starting the role. But I think they should look for someone better first. Get someone who not only looks the part but can also act very well, much like Christian Bale in BB. That rules out most TV-actors. And they'd have to get an actor in his late 20s or early 30s if it's gonna be a trilogy so that he doesn't look 50 by the third film.

@ceghead: as long as hes not fighting lame villains i dont care how dark or "duurty" it gets. hes the most powerful being in the universe and he fights bank robbers and shit? come on man, that is some lame sauce.

How about Zachary Quinto for Superman?
I do know he would make an excellent Clark.

Ugh. He seems like a really cool guy, but it just isn't going to happen. I wish we could just move on and every god damn interviewer would stop asking the question.

He could have been a great Superman. Unfortunately, Bryan Singer pretty much [frick]ed it up for him by making him do a two and a half hour impersonation of Christopher Reeves. Routh has already shown he's a good actor in other roles (Chuck is one very good example of that) and I think it's time he moved on. This reboot needs a fresh start with a new lead actor. Regrdless, I'd actually be ok with them bringing Routh back now Singer is out of the picture!

JoshWilding - 8/19/2010, 6:04 PM
In my opinion, he'd actually make a great Cyclops if Marvel Studios ever got the rights back to the characters! :P

Someone mentioned Henry Cavill. Now, I don't know if he's a good enough actor, but he kinda looks the part. They should at least get him to audition.

@Hamm3rtym3 - lol....chillax, dude. The only thing we know is that Chris Nolan 'might' be interested in giving him an audition. But that doesn't mean he's going to get the role by any means. And just because a few people in here want him back doesn't mean everybody feels the same. Outside the internet, I'm sure most movie-goers don't want to see his Supes again ever.

Even though it will never happen Id happily have either Routh or Welling as Superman before anyone else. Simply because I think both would do a good job and if not that means I will have watched 4 Supermen, Dean Cain when I was younger, in my life...and I'm only just twenty.
And people complain about all the hulks...

Its Game Over for Brandon Routh as Superman. Bryan Singer did that to him we need someone fresh and a good actor.

Routh can kiss my ***!

It's not gonna happen dude. They dont want this to be an epic fail again.

I would be more excited to see Z Quinto (which I dont think has the body to be a superman at all, although he's an awesome actor), rather than routh. Hell, I would see a black superman rather than Routh
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/19/2010, 6:32 PM
Both Brandon Routh and Tom Welling would make a decent big screen Superman IMO. The problem is, they both come with too much baggage! Routh is carrying a pretty awful movie in Superman Returns while Welling is carrying a 10 year stint as Clark Kent which has had some really awful moments especially in the past few seasons.

My guess is that WB wont cast either of them because of their past links to the character. This reboot (as far as we know so far) is neither a follow up to Superman Returns or Smallville and casting one of them would surely lead many to believe it is! Ideally, we need a new actor who's pretty much an unknown in the same way Hemsworth was before he was cast in Thor!

DasBoot - 8/19/2010, 6:37 PM
I can't picture anyone that could do better in the role so I'd like to see him get another shot at it!
Phinehas
Phinehas - 8/19/2010, 6:39 PM
Why do they keep coming back to Routh? He's the worst hack ever to be perpetrated upon a CBM character! He can't act and hasn't done anything substantial since!!! Why? Can't act. Period. Can't do it. Doesn't have it. Nothin'. Singer saw him at a Halloween party in a Supes costume and picked him.
Not to mention how arrogant to say, "... I certainly would love to return to my character but it's not within my power."
-->MY character<--??? It doesn't belong to him! What a dooshy!

JoshWilding - 8/19/2010, 6:42 PM
Hamm3rtym3: Lol, I actually used to really enjoy that series when I was younger! Sure, if I saw an episode now it would probably look awful but that's how a Superman TV show should be IMO...[frick] red/blue blurs and black trenchcoats! :P
