Rumoured Superman Director Would Reboot The Franchise!

Ninja Assassin and V For Vendetta director James McTeigue reveals his vision for the future of the franchise.

The director would "neither confirm nor deny" his attachment to a new "Superman" movie when speaking to MTV's Splash Page today...but he did tell where he'd like to go with DC's Man of Steel IF he was in the director's chair.

"I think if I was ever going to go near Superman, I would do a complete reboot—take it in a direction that you would absolutely not expect, actually," McTeigue told MTV News. "So, that would be my thinking on it, if I was ever going to go near Superman."

When asked what direction he'd like to take Superman in McTeigue said recent events would seem to work in favor of a new take on the Man of Steel.

"I think it's good that they just had a court case where, basically, if you make another Superman movie, you can't touch Superman growing up—that's part of the story that you can't touch any more," he said. "That wouldn't be a bad thing. I think everybody's a bit sick of seeing the origin story."

Well he is right that everyone is sick of the origin story. Good find Josh.

I agree with McTeigue...the origin has been done to death and I don't think there are very many humans on this planet earth who do not know it...Bring on Some powerful baddies who can actually hurt Supes!

First film: Brainiac with Luthor as secondary villain. I would like to see Luthor slowly descend into villainy as the film progresses. I also want Luthor to be a corrupt business man, owner/founder of Lexcorp deal.

Sounded to me like he said "I'd do a complete... not a reboot..."

i like the idea of taking superman in a different direction.
i am tired of seeing the all-american nigh invulnerable alien without a home cant get a girl superman.
they need to introduce some villains that can hurt supes without kryptonite.
they need to get him off of earth basically.
i wanna see darkseid and mongul and even lobo.
but i also want a director who wont make the movie a farce.
i liked v for vendetta and i am interested in seeing his new ninja assassin movie but i dont know if he could successfully direct a superman film.
but at least he has the right idea.

I hope they don't change his suit. What kind of take would he take????

If they did continue the storyline from Returns I say kill the kid (as much as I HATE sayin that) and see Superman go to that dark side. Let him cross that line...

I hope they do change the suit to make it seem more heroic, and make Supes actually look intimidating and built.

Superman shouldn't be dark IMO. The villain should be dark, and the fights serious, but Supes himself should never be dark.

Phinehas - 8/20/2009, 9:51 PM
I don't think we should even maintain SR in our memory, Instigator Girl.

Tyler, of coarse Supes shouldn't be a dark EMO! LOL

I oppose changing the suit, or pulling away from his American leanings. Those things are what made him great. The only thing that should be changed is further attempts to change him. I think moving on with an ongoing story is the right way to go. Flashbacks of his past, (i cannot believe I'm about to say this) just how Singerman did it, is the way to keep his origins ever-present in the minds of new generations. Teasing them with mystery, and begging for more.

I want the material of the suit to change and make Supes look strong and muscular.

I can imagine it now, Superman flying down the street doing the disco dance...

I like the Jim Lee picture on the main page. If it looks like that, I am satisfied. Not that hack of an actor in metrosexual costume!!!

Well... thats fine with me. It would be cool to get Routh back. I'm worried though, as I hated V for Vendetta (nothing like the graphic novel).

im joking,

its refreshing to hear someone say, yeah... we need to move on.
I for one would really love to see Superman in all his awesome that has made him freakin superman for so long. go against a villain toe to toe and throw down some super punches.

i would love to see someone who can handle superman even just a little bit.

I've always thought using Lobo in a superman movie would really work. Have it where superman is wondering about his identity and in comes this badass of an alien and bam, brawl time!

woot!

Sounds good to me! A new direction could work (obviously depending on what it is) if he actually makes this a proper superhero film rather than a glorified tribute to the old films from the 70's/80's!

As for the origin - i completely agree! even non comic book fans know about Superman and where he came from! sounds to me like this guy might just be the breath of fresh air the franchise needs!

teabag & Tyler: thanks! :)

You can still REBOOT with ROUTH! He is SUPERMAN!!!

McTeigue is right. Everyone over the age of 3 knows Superman's origin. It's been done, and done to the point of playing it out. Let's just concentrate on bringing in villains with no L's in their names (except maybe Metallo), and telling some good stories. My preferences would be either Brainiac or Darkseid.

But please, no Routh. Don't know who this guy is in the picture above my post, but he at least LOOKS a lot more a Man of Steel than Routh does. Let's treat Returns as an alternate reality story or an "imaginary tale", and keep nothing to remind us of that filth-fest.

No origin story, no Lex, no Daily Planet cast, and re-do the uniform or change color's slightly. Might have a chance.

Lol @ Teabag

Bring on Brainiac. Why has that character not ever been used? Brainiac is a badass, challenging villain that would bring Supes to his knees. The people want to see Superman bleed and almost defeated before he completely unleashes and totally kicks ass. I agree: I'm tired of seeing feats of strength. If I wanted to see someone lift gianormous objects, I'd watch a strongman competition. Why should all of the action be reserved for the cartoons?

There are so many great Superman villians. I dont know why Brainiac, Parasite, Bizarro, or even Livewire have never been used.

Not sure where that holds relevance,SirPrize, but it tickles me to see it again.
