Should The Man of Steel be a origin story?

Should The Man of Steel be a origin story?

Do you think that Zack Snyder's reboot should be a origin story ala Batman Begins? Come on in and give your opinion...

With Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot on the way, what do you think the story of Superman should be? Let's take a look:

Origin Story

In 2005, Batman Begins gave us a unique origin about Batman and how he conquered his fears while becoming Batman. If Christopher Nolan did that with Batman, would he possibly do it again with Superman? We all saw the origin in the 1978 movie with Christopher Reeve but I feel it would be very important to have the origin in this movie since it's a reboot for a potential JLA Universe.

Non-Origin Story/Flashbacks

Another option of course is to just do what The Incredible Hulk did and just show flashbacks. And of course they could always just skip the origin story and just show Superman. However, I think more people would want to see a origin story again for the new and "modern" Superman.

Well, that's all I have to say. So what's your say?

VOTE!!!

@ gaston

i agree, the origin can be told in the opening credits.

lets have a film that is pure superman beating the shit out of a villain, but not lex luthor again, have him as more of a background character, not as the main villain.

There should be a fourth option where we vote for the opinion that we either want the 1st option or the third option (basically as long as the origin is in the movie). I'm not going to vote since that option isn't up there.

@ozymandias: Something along the lines of "I don't care, As long as they include the origin, I'm fine". Thanks.

There are decades of great stories to draw from in the comics of past years. Just don't release a new movie while Smallville is still playing and white hot. And don't ignore the appeal of the primary colors of red, yellow and blue. The brown cape was as unappealing in Superman Returns as it was in Superman III.

@Gaston LOL
anyways, this is Superman for a new generation. Most teens these days will be more likely to watch a modern retelling than your average Chris Reeve Superfilm. So origin story sounds fine to me.

either TIH style or not at all. most people pretty much know the superman back story and i dont think we really need to spend half a movie watching clark kent growing up.

maybe have some stuff back on Krypton with his dad and all that jazz, but we dont need a superman origin story.

the difference with batman and iron man is that people didnt really know all that stuff, general audiences probably arent aware that batman was a ninja and all that stuff.
and that was iron man's first time on the big screen

not necessary imo

We had a huge Origin story of 10 seasons in Smallville, people will be pissed off if we see any more Origins.

Believe it or not there are people who don't know Superman's origin so I think it's important to include it in some form. What the Donner films failed to show is why Clark decided to become Superman and I've got a feeling that's what this movie is going to show. Whether it's a full on origin, a coming of age story or a fully established Superman, or even a combination of all three, I have faith in Nolan and Snyder. I'm sure we will get a Superman who will finally live up to the name.

him arriving from krypton and landing in smallville can be done through the credits and expanded on by flash backs one thing I definitely want to see is him as free roaming reporter who gets caught up in a conflict e.g. Superman Birthright

No need for an ORIGIN...

Everyone knows it and been told tons of times!

Anyone dishing the Donner films is not a true Superman fan btw and needs to get some taste! :)

Yes if its going to be new take in the life of Superman then i think it should be a origin story.
Something like Birthright mixed with Secret Origin.

@Gatson the superman movie should be for EVERYONE,

I don't want to see a dark take or some campy take on the character. It dosen't have to be totally light hearted either if there one super hero movie that every one should be able to watch and enjoy its superman

@BaneKill77: I'm sure most of the general public probably hasn't seen The first Superman movie. Even if they have they probably still won't care if the movie is different and good. Just because there is an origin in the movie doesn't mean the movie won't have any other plot, but be an origin.

PLease, not another superman origin story.

I actually highly agree with you AlexDeLarge87. That's the same exact point that I was going to make. They really should start from the bottom and work their way up from there. If they write the story right (and I know they will with Snyder/Nolan on the job, especially Nolan) then they could almost do what Nolan will/has done for the Batman films (from Batman Begins to The Dark Knight and finally the upcoming highly anticipated, The Dark Knight Rises). P :)

Yes and no. Yes because there are many different ways to tell his origins. No because nearly every soul on the planet knows his story. Flashbacks please.
