Back in March of this year, most people were devastated by the twitter post by Michaeal Rosenbaum stating he would not be returning in this upcoming season. However at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Tom Welling stated in an interview with KryptonSite that Rosenbaum has expressed interest in returning in the upcoming season of the show "but there are just some things to iron out, and I think he understands that we can't end the show without Lex Luthor."

He went on to announce the plan to tease his return early in the season, as seen in recent trailers as the one below:

Jp499: I for one am curious as to know how this slipped under the fanboy radar. Was it missed or not taken seriously? Info one would like think this confirms the recent rumors and speculation that Michael Rosenbaum is indeed returning this season and that the return has been played down by the Smallville team.

Anyways, how do you feel about this news? Excited? Indifferent?

I don't see this as new information. Status quo remains the same until the show's producers announce it. It be nice but no need to get excited.

Hmm, smart marketing? I mean, there's already a ton of hype for this season without THAT announcement. Maybe sweeps week? Here's to hoping, anyway!

I don't think that the Welling interview slipped under the fan boy radar. I think that fans simply did not want to jinx anything after Welling said that (kind of, 'wait and see'/'believe it when we see it' kind of thing)

@Anil Rickly- Yeah exactly, I mean it's the last season of the show, and it would make a huge difference to the fans, even if he only guest starred for a few episodes. Other than Smallville he's also only been in a few mediocre movies and done some voice acting, so It's not like he has a million other projects lined up for him. I'm going to be really surprised if he doesn't make an appearance, but also pretty disappointed. Let's just hope he doesn't decide to let the fans down.

I've always hated Lex Luthor, either in the comics or the movies(yes, even Spacey's). But Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex is amazing. It was one of the few things that held my interest in Smallville.

I, for one, would be extremely happy to see the best Lex of all time return to the role he was seemingly born to play... To me he is Lex. Spacey was horrible, and Gene Hackman was laughable. Rosenbaum is the man... I want to see him back and a fully realized Lex Luthor! Like in the Onyx episode from Season 4(One of my Favorites)... Awesome!!!!!

But only if it happens....

The british actor Mark Strong could always take over to play Lex Luthor cause he always plays villains in so many movies. It should be Michael RosenBaum or Mark Strong.
