The Death of Superman: Long Live the Batman Cinematic Universe(BCU)

Not long ago right here on our very own CBM there was a 8-9 page thread where a sound argument was in process about....wait for it....ANT-MAN VS SUPERMAN's box office draw. If you had told me 10 years ago this discussion would take place but not only that but Ant-man would be  even WINNING said discussion the level of laughter I would have got on your behalf would be enough to send a man into a inferiority complex that could last a life time. But alas, this is exactly the case. so in short...W.T.F!?

ITS THE RETURN OF THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DCfans shouted with pride in genuine hype after hearing Zack Snyder would reboot Superman. DC shopped the reboot around as a guaranted billion seller at least. I remember DC heads saying this in detail that "MOS was certain to make a billion at the box office" and DCfans followed suit in whats probably an uncountable number of internet post claiming "bow down b@#$&*% the KING IS BACK!!" Words like "He's the grand daddy of all superheroes!" or "He's the most iconic of them all!" started flying around like Gusto at a Miley Cyrus used underwear auction. Fastforward 2 years after MOS's release tho. THE WHOLE SCENE HAS CHANGED!

SUPERMAN HAS COMPLETLY LOST STEAM. All Snyders talk about "Oh yeah, Superman is definitly getting a sequel first. We're gonna get Superman's house in order before we even start to think about the rest of the BCU(DCCU)" flew out the window after fans and critics butcherd its reviews. Someone once said "MOS must have done something right because two years later people are STILL talking about it" But what are people talking about when they talk about MOS. 9 outta 10 times its the quality because some can't live in a world where...well Superman is a nobody. Sorry. But it is what it is. Thats why he's not getting a sequel. DC/WB spent a steller amont on budget and advertising and it still profited less in ticket sales than all current cbm's and was recieved worst then them all in effect proving once again that Superman is now...well..a nobody. Yeah MOS may have grossed more total than some but it dosen't matter if a studio had to spend nearly half a billion to gain just a about a half billion. And lets be real here. The only thing that MATTERS to studios is profit. And this is where the Box office of this film did less than all others with a desimal 42mil from ticket sales. And when compared to the billion DC promised this film would make is it any wonder the MOS sequel is in limbo. Them Dudes ain't happy.

NOT ONE BUT TWO MAJOR FAILS. MOS was the second major Superman fail in recent years. Superman Returns was the first. DC/WB must at some point really believed Superman was the "most iconic"  and "greatest of all time" because his failure was not from lack of trying. Like MOS DC/WB broke the bank on Superman Returns. It had a INSANE budget of 270mil!! Thats more than all modern cbms including the Avengers. Add an advertising budget of 100mil. Superman Returns needed to make about 600mil just to break even and it did less than 400mil total at the B.O. Superman Returns would have been the biggest cbm bomb in history if not for another Justice Leaguer that goes by the name of the Green Lanten. Damn DC. Just damn. SR loss around 200mil in ticket sales. Believe me when I say DC/WB is done with this dude.

ZACK WAS TALKING S@#$ ABOUT ANT-MAN! Remember Zack's comment about Ant-man simply being the "flavor of the week" Well I dont think this was random at all. This could have been a purposeful dig to try and hide an embarrising truth. Ant-man owns YOUR Superman. Technically Snyder was telling the truth while at the same time trying to give his Superman a leg to stand on. He was telling the truth in that Ant-man is a new hero(in Hollywood) while Superman has been around for years. So yeah there was some truth to what he said. But the problem was disregarding the fact that this "flavor of the week" owned your a**. Critics and fans ate Ant-man up. And in profit Ant-man rests at 80mil(Double MOS's life time profit of 42mil) but it still hasn't been released in several key territories including China and Japan! Ant-man could easly turn out to be massive hit in those typically good for box office regions. Its possible for Ant-man the already winning film to blow up in those regions and completly destory and humiliate MOS. So no I dont think that was a random dig from Snyder. It was really the only thing he could say to give his franchise a nod. At the end of the day the only thing studios care about is profit. Ant-man will destroy both recent Superman films(SR,MOS) where it counts. Zack knows this.

I'm not gonna go into the fact that the so-called "grand daddy of superheroes" will more than likely never have a video game or cartoon series again. Or that he didnt even get mentioned in the top selling comics of last year. Hell, Rocket Raccoon was number three last year. But its more than obvious Zack never did get around to "fixing Superman's house". Maybe DC/WB should have contracted a better carpenter cuz Zack is failing.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo DC/WB lost faith in trying to rebuild the one house and did the next best thing. Put the last of the resources into another house which already has a good frame and a sturdy foundation. THE BATMAN. This dosen't need fixing just a remodel. And thats exactly what DC/WB has done. Superman has been demoted to Hawkeye, Black Widow status in the BCU. He'll play a key role in and be in all the movies buts thats about it. Dosent much sound like "grand daddy" treatment to me. Long live the BCU!! Batman has obviously become the focus of the BCU. The thought that anyone could see this differently is mind blowing. Zack himself has confirmed that Batman will have more screen time than Superman in BvS. Suicide Squad is nothing more than a Batman movie told from his rogues perspective. The Justice League movie will be sold as Batman and friends with Batman taking front and center of every trailer and poster. Batman has a cgi animated LEGO movie coming in 2017. My personal theory is Wonder Womans movie is gonna get pushed back for Batman's reboot. Because DC/WB dosen't even have faith in Superman so its no way in h*** the well known but unpopular WW will get a movie during this crucial infant stage of the BCU(DCCU). THE BCU BUSINESS MODEL: Sale everything Batman and pray to god something else sticks before people get tired of him.

RIP Superman.

To be honest yes Superman is not as popular has he used to be, and no I do not see anything wrong or bad with WB leveraging one of hate most popular characters in the world.

Heck even Marvel ran with Ironman and now they are pushing the other most popular character in the world...... Spiderman.

And to address your remarks that WW may or will be pushed back for a Batman reboot..... well that is not happening, but how do you feel about several Marvel movies being pushed back for a Spiderman reboot?

You see all the points you are making are exactly what Marvel has done but you seem fine with that.

Will Superman get another sequel? I think so, I personally feel as though they want to pump in some excitement from BvS first.

Disagree they used Ironman with Nick Fury to connect all the movies...... heck even the next Captain America movie has to feature Ironman.

Also you seem to be forgetting or not addressing my comments regarding Marvel pushing back a few films to make room for Spiderman!!!!!!

Yup everything that you are bitching about is exactly what Marvel has, is, and is going to do in the near future!!!!!!!!

You do realize that we are getting a Wonder Woman movie, a Suicide Squad movie and before I drop this mic.

Well, to be fair, the Suicide Squad movie does have a confirmed Batman appearance...

I call BS on most of this article...first of all MOS is a very different film tonally from the entire Marvel universe. Comparing the box office draws of Ant Man and MOS is an exercise in futility, as it's apples to oranges comparison. MOS opened one week before both Monsters University and World War Z, which was a ton of competition and it suffered from a lack of repeat viewership and the soccer moms of the world not taking their little ones to see it, but to see the cartoon instead. Since when does box office draw indicate how good a film is anyhow? The Transformers movies were not good and made a ton of money...it happens all the time. Rotten Tomatoes is almost as useless a measuring stick...most reviewers of MOS were pissed that it wasn't the Superman they grew up with, which is a nonsensical argument. That'd be like saying Nolan's Batman movies weren't any good because it wasn't like Adam West's Batman TV show!

Interesting editorial.

I tend to agree with most of it, but two things are being left out:
1. Zack movies - making isn't a mass audience friendly style, so you better be economical and for God's sake make it good. Both of which he didn't on MOS, and the endless production schedule on BvS must be racking up some crazy bills.
2. Superman, like Marvel has discovered with the Hulk, is a hard character to have in a solo movie. IMHO,there has been only one good superman movie and only 3 quarters of it were good. An all powerful all known character in an ultra realistic cinematic world is hard to portray with any true sense of jeopardy or drama. Don't get me started on the costume or leap of faith required to believe that no one would recognize him.

@TheAmericanPatriot - "Hahahahaha! This is f.ucking brilliant! The truth hurts doesn't it you pathetic DC Commie Fanboys?! LMAO!!!" - Says the Marvel Nazi Fanboy.

Don't be delusional, you're no better than any other studio-bias "fan". It sucks being someone who like both DC & Marvel and has to put up with these pathetic studio-bias kids and their make believe "rivalry."

I didn't think MOS was a fail, I just don't hold it as highly better than a lot of CBM movies.
Plus Im in my 30's so Chris Reeve's Superman is still the icon I remember to be the best Superman.
Also while I don't like Zack Snyder's remarks, I do like his cinematography in his movies.
I think Batman vs Superman looks good. But I do agree that it seems as if DC/WB is shifting their focus towards Affleck's Batman, and I could've swore I read that in an article that they are looking to make Affleck's Batman a bigger Role in the DCCU now that BvS screening showed that people liked Batfleck a lot.
