Rumours have swirled for weeks that The Flash director Andy Muschietti has been tapped to direct The Brave and the Bold, with the filmmaker even playing coy in interviews when asked about the possibility.
Well, One Take News has reportedly "confirmed with multiple sources" that Muschietti is indeed directing DC Studios' Batman reboot.
James Gunn has previously expressed an interest in bringing the director into the fold, and with everyone from him to Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav and Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise hyping The Flash as one of the best superhero movies ever made, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.
After all, early reactions have been mostly very positive, with many singling out what a great job Muschietti has done with Michael Keaton's returning Batman. That alone could make him an ideal pick to reimagine the Dark Knight alongside his son Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin.
While a screenplay for The Flash 2 has been written, a sequel is likely a low priority for DC Studios unless that projected $70 million opening weekend ultimately translates into a record-breaking global haul (it's certainly not outside the ream of possibility based on what happened with Aquaman back in 2018).
Muschietti helmed both IT movies before moving on to The Flash and appears to have had a great time in the DCEU despite the many changes made to the project since cameras first began rolling. During that period, he's clearly proven he has what it takes to tell stories in this world.
The Brave and the Bold, which is unrelated to Matt Reeves' The Batman II, will introduce the DCU's Batman and Muschietti is now the third filmmaker to be attached to one of DC Studios' upcoming movies. Gunn will helm Superman: Legacy, while James Mangold has been tapped to direct Swamp-Thing (presumably after his planned Star Wars prequel).
The Flash races into theaters on June 16.
