THE FLASH: Greg Finley Cast As Supervillain 'Girder'

Why do I feel like we already knew this, was the character announced to be on the show or something?

But Marvel never copied any of DC's characters right?

Marvel and DC have both blatantly copied each other. This is undeniable, and your failure to realize this shows your lack of comic book knowledge..

Nice! Girder! Man, they are definitely on the Geoff Johns train, aren't they?

I guess it makes sense that they'd have to mine as many of the physically-deformed Rogues as they can, given the premise of the series. I'm thinking Tar Pit isn't too far behind.

But making Girder into someone who bullied Barry, while clearly taking a page from the Spider-Man playbook (in mining teenage trauma for adventure stories), isn't actually ripping off Spider-Man.

How many of Peter's rogues bullied him in high school? Flash Thompson was Pete's number-one nemesis as a teen, and yet he ended up just becoming a supporting character for years after burying the hatchet with Peter (I mean, sure, he ended up becoming Venom, too... but that was WAY later, and that Venom was a hero). J. Jonah Jameson kinda bullied him, and was kinda responsible for the Spider-Slayers and Scorpion... but that's a hell of a stretch. The fact is, almost none of Peter's regular rogues gallery knew him personally as Peter... except for Harry Osborn, of course. His best friend.

This is why the movies had to keep manufacturing the villains' connections to Peter Parker. Personal tension between the hero and villain makes for much more compelling drama than the hero just beating up a random guy robbing a bank. They do it in superhero movies all the time, even when they shouldn't.

The whole "hero knows the villain thing" isn't exclusive to Spider-Man, anyway... so how does that make The Flash a Spidey rip-off? Because there's a sub-plot involving the character's high-school years? Does Spider-Man have the copyright on the very CONCEPT of a superhero having gone to high school and been bullied?

Get over it, guys. He's a young guy, and he's a superhero... the show's airing on the CW, for Christ's sake. It was bound to come up sooner or later.

Can't wait to see what the series has in store!

So I guess CW is saving Mirror Master and the other Rogues for Season 2.

Hate the bully angle. Kind of lessens te viciousness of the villian. Te whole bully angle makes it cheesy for some reason. I love Girder and his look. Hopefully he doesn't look like colossus form x men an looks like his scary looking comic book depiction. But...knowing CW he won't. Cast a good looking dude and altered his powers...he can't unchange his metal form in the comics he's always metal

They both do it but Marvel has definitely copied DC more. Some of the one's you named in your post aren't copies though. Iron Man definitely took a lot of inspiration form Batman but he really grew into a different character. Also Vision is kinda similar to martian manhunter as well.
