Sam Raimi To Produce and Possibly Direct The Shadow

Most people know that the former Spider-Man director was set to produce "The Shadow." Evidently, he now wants to direct it also.

Sam Raimi has been attached as a producer for "The Shadow" for quite some time. IESB (via SlashFilm) is now reporting that he is also interested in directing it. He certainly has plenty of experience directing superhero movies with "Darkman" and three "Spider-Man" films on his resume.

The last time a Shadow adaptation graced any wide stream media was the 1994 film starring Alec Baldwin.




No casting announcements have been made. Mr. Remorse is supposedly set to be the villain for the upcoming adaptation. IESB is also reporting a much darker film with nudity, brutality, and some possibly gruesome scenes.

If this is true, it doesn't seem to take Mr. Raimi very long to get back on the horse.

SHADOW! Raimi has owned this property for a long time!
I already knew he was producing it but now he is directing! Fan-freakin'-tastic! I love it!

Raimi makes excellent movies,(Army of Darkness,Darkman) not to name the two spiderman movies. I trust he will bring it justice.

He'll do a great job of this, Darkman is an excellent film probably forgotton by most people now as it was made sometime ago, it's well worth checking out, he could do a lot worse that casting Liam Neeson as Lamont Canston aka..THE SHADOW.

I searched The Shadow and Raimi articles before I posted this and it didn't come up.

Everyone, Superman 4 first mentioned Raimi was attatched as director in his (Classic Radio Heroes and their Adaptations article).

I don't think iv seen the whole lot of the Baldwin movie..I remember thinking it was a bit shite to be honest but I'll give it another watch maybe.

Sam Raimi + The Shadow = Darkman.
Raimi sounds great. Now is the time to give Mark Strong a chance to lead.
I can definitely see him as Lamont Cranston / Kent Allard aka The Shadow

The Alec Baldwin Shadow movie was complete SHYTE yet it was shyte i couldn't have enough of!!! I was literally like a pig rollin' in SHIT!!! I IMMENSELY LOVED IT!!! It is definitely a part of my CBM top 10 along side Stallone's Judge Dredd, NO JOKE :))

Raimi is IDEAL for this!!! His horror, Darkman and Spidey film experience would all brilliantly contribute to bring us an ASTONISHING Shadow franchise!!! He's by far THE PERFECT choice!!! And who i want to be Cranston is no other than Ralph Fiennes!!! He'd nail the gritty side(Voldemort) as well as the aristocratic side of the character!!!

I don't like the idea of making it gruesome, that doesn't even sound like it could fit with The Shadow. I do like the idea of making a more adult version than the Baldwin one.

Mark Strong might be-able to pull of playing The Shadow, but I don't know if I see him as Lamont Cranston. Although, that may just be because I'm still in Lord Blackwood (Sherlock Holmes villain) mode.

Clive Owen might do a better job than Mark anyway. He seems like the kind of guy who could pull off a character with a bit of a darkside, and I haven't seen him play a villain (yet).

Baldwin IS The Shadow! I remember seeing this for the first time when I was a kid... It blew my mind away!
Darkman was insane! Too good for words to describe IMO.
This will bring about "The Rise of the Classic Superheroes", which will (hopefully) bring the JSA to a big screen.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Sam Raimi's take on The Shadow character(s). I don't doubt that it will be a well-made remake.

Raimi wanted to do this movie originally...before he created his own character "Darkman".
I believe he'll nail it.
