The Shadow Movie Has a New Home...FOX!

Sam Raimi is still attached as producer but according to what Latino Review, "The Shadow" is no longer with Sony. It is now with 20th Century Fox, and they have picked up the property.

Latino also says FOX is eying David Slade as the director job of the comic book adaption and whose movies include: "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (not yet out), "Hard Candy," and "30 Days of Night" (Sam Raimi also produced this one).

The Shadow has been a collection of pulp magazine novels, radio programs, movies in the thirties, a 15-chapter serial produced by Columbia Studios, DC comics, Dark horse comic book series, and many more. Most recently on the big screen, a Universal Pictures feature film in 1994 starring Alec Baldwin.

LEEE777 - Sounds to this fan boy that this could have something to do with what happened with Raimi and his Spider-man franchise at Sony and might be the main reason its home is now at 20th Century Fox? Anyways thoughts and comments below.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH [frick]!!!!!! This is one of my favorite characters EVER!!! He practically triple ties at #1 with Batman and Daredevil!!!! And now he gets FOXED?!?!?!?! GOD [frick]ING DAMN!!!!!! This ain't my day :((

rockingrich1webb- Well... we'll always have Alec... We'll always have Alec *snif* *sob* *tear* :((

But i'm still interested in seeing what Sam Raimi could do with it. He doesn't always shit out gold but i think this character could well suit his style of directing. Normally i would root for "a studio that knows what fans want" to impose their restrictions on their directors but... this is Fox we're talking about and Raimi is pretty much tried tested and true when it comes down to horror and suspense. I think i'll root for Raimi to establish his "his way or the highway" clause, this time around. If Fox gives Raimi as much liberty as they do Cameron, we could be in for a treat! I just hope it's edgy and gritty like it's supposed to be. After all, if Batman was DC's "Punisher", he'd be THE SHADOW!!! So... DO HIM RIGHT!!!

But Shadow and Spidey have oceans of differences. I agree that he screwed the pooch on the last spidey and was about to do worse with Vulturess but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to film anything else. His style is right for The Shadow. But my favortie choice of directors would have to be McTeigue!!! After V for Vendetta, i can't understand why anyone wouldn't want McTeigue to helm The Shadow :))

Oh and has anyone seen Ong Bak 2 yet??? MAN!!!! The first one was groundbreaking but the second one was EPIC!!! The ending is quite the cliffhanger but i can't wait to see the 3rd one since it will directly follow the second!!! Think of it as The Jungle Book mixed with The Rundown mixed with Rambo4 mixed with Enter the Dragon!!! LOL And it's a long ass film too, i was surprised... but very pleasantly at that! Even the soundtrack kicked mega ass!!! The only downer is the english dubbed version. God that was bad voice acting! I really wished that it was dubbed in french cause us Quebecers excel at voice acting ;)

Everyone should give 'em a watch!

LEEE- Yeah the second one just got released in Canada so i bought it full price since i was a monumental fan of the first! But this second chapter, or "beginning" really, was out of this world. It took me for a ride i really wasn't expecting one bit!!! It went far above and beyond the first in EVERY way. I can't believe Tony Jaa filmed it all, WHAT A STELLAR DEBUT!!!

Ong Bak2, get it, watch it, LOVE IT!!! Forget the first! Well... not entirely i mean, it single handedly revolutionised martial arts films but... the second is such an epic to behold!!! And it almost has nothing to do with the first so you won't miss out on anything really :))

I'd have to go back on my earlier comparison a bit. I'd say it's definitely the Jungle Book mixed with Rambo4 but in the realm of freakin' Arnie's CONAN!!! ASTONISHING!!!

Thanks Matches! This one might stick for a while LOL.

And i actually never liked the first Shadow film... until i bought it for 5$ and watched it for nostalgia's sake. If you don't take it seriously, it actually becomes a pretty enjoyable campy pulp film. It's kinda funny that some years later, i appreciate it so much more than when i first saw it, with oceans of expectations LOL :)

I really hope we get a great new version!!! And Ralph Fiennes would be a stellar Lamont IMO ;)

Be afraid... be VERY AFRAID!!!! This Shadow moive needs to make 'Dark Knight' look like an episode of 'Reading Rainbow' in order to be effective! I don't think Fox and Raimi have the balls to pull this one off.

RIKSHAWRenegade - 3/4/2010, 11:17 AM
Nothing against Raimi at all, I think he would direct perfectly. But Fox being involved with any comicbook movie is a major NO NO. Unless of cource you want to make a steaming pile of crap, in that case go for it.

The Shadow is one of my favorite comic characters. I saw him in a Batman comic book when I was a kid. I first thought he was a villain, because almost all of Batman Villains wear nice suits and Batman is the only one wearing Tights. LMAO!!! But when I found out he was a good guy, I started looking for him in other comics. I hope they make it like a Indiana Jones type adventure this time. Make more epic and astonishing, and less campy and corny. Trust me.." I KNOW, HahaHAHahaHAAha."

Good stuff Lee. Its nowhere near my top ten but I enjoyed the first movie but its been a while since I've seen it. Don't know if it would hold up to me seeing it now.

The shadow is great, and even though it's being done by FOX I know rami loves the character, he already made a pseudo Shadow movie it's called Darkman...and it was excellent.
dakotaslim
dakotaslim - 3/4/2010, 12:51 PM
@thwhtguardian

absolutely! darkman was a total pulp/noir with added raimi kitsch and it was fantastic. THE SHADOW has to be one of my favorite folkloric protagonists of all time. I hope they do him justice.

I rewatched the Baldwin one. Less than fantastic. Plain goofy sometimes.
Shaman
Shaman - 3/4/2010, 1:20 PM
thwhtGuardian- I third THAT!!! Mix every horror/suspense film Raimi ever did with Darkman and he can totally pull off The Shadow. But, like loganoneil says, Fox doesn't have the balls or the brain. I just hope they stay the hell out of Raimi's way. But that is wishful thinking at it's most naive.

I actually liked the original Shadow movie with Baldwin, as cheesey as it was. I hope a remake will be even better, and I am sure it will so long as Slade leans towards his 30 Days of Night abilities and Raimi doesn't drag anything in from Spidey 3.

The original "The Shadow" was one of my favorite movies.
However, I don't think this is bad news; not everything FOX makes is crap.
David Slade is a good director...I think he could definitely handle it. If Sam Raimi directs instead...even better.

JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 3/4/2010, 3:16 PM
Shaman - It was indeed, and there is definately a place for that kind of goodness. Plus Bladwin looked pretty cool in the Shadow getup.

McLovin - Fox isn't always bad, I liked the first two X-men movies. There is also Aliens, the original Star Wars trilogy, the Abyss and I believe the original Predator was a Fox movie. Granted they are older movies but they are good enough to not through Fox to the curb.

theartofoneness- AWESOME painting!!! :))

JerusalemJr- Well... i enjoyed Alec in the getup but not so much Daniel. As a kid, it's one of the biggest things i didn't like about the film. But as an adult, now i understand why the character did that. It's a great film IMO. The soundtrack was great, the atmosphere was palpable, i loved how crazy Tim Curry was in it and it's the first time i saw Ian McKellen in a film LOL. Penelope Ann Miller was very good as Margo Lane too :)) But John Lone was the only one that seemed to have a below par performance. He was decent but... shaky at times. Great effects though so all in all, a great film :)

Shaman@ I might have to give it another run through. Atmospherically, I thought the movie looked really cool, but I don't think camp suits the character very well. I used to check out audio tapes of the old radio show from the public library when I was a kid and I thought those were awesome. The new movie definitely needs a darker, more serious tone.

theartofoneness@ You got mad skillz, dude!
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 3/5/2010, 9:24 AM
Shaman - I agree on pretty much every point. They could have made the whole movie with him just in the Shadow gear kicking a$$ and I would have been fine with that, most of the fights were pretty cool from what I remember. As for Tim Curry, he rocks in pretty much anything he does and the boy knows him some crazy.

Speaking of Tim Curry and crazy, I just realized recently how much Tom Hanks looks like Dr. Frank-N-Furter when he is dressed up as a woman in Bosom Buddies.
