Anybody know of Miller's other movies?

The man has made 1!! That's it! One! Sin City was his comic but not his movie. Yeah, he is listed as co-director but he was a glorified assistant. And 300, he just did the comic.

Capone @ AICN:
You can dress up a piece of shit to look like a Fabergé Egg, but it's still a piece of shit. There are just far too many quality films in theaters right now to waste either your time or money going to this stale [frick]ing thing or even reading another word about it.

Why Cant you people just say that the movie is good or bad followed by a reason as to why it is good or bad. I know this is the internet but I get tired of hearing people bitch about shit and rip things apart for no reason. If you watched the movie tell your opion of it and if you havent seen the movie yet and are basing your opinion about it from just the trailers and everything you know about the movies then just shut the hell up and go cry somewhere else with the rest of the haters out there. I havent seen the movie so i cant say anything about it yet. I saw the punisher war zone and i thought it was going to be good but it was actualy a god awful movie.

TucsonRican, check the credits for Robocop 2 and 3. Those could be considered Miller movies, after all he did write them. I don't know about you, but seeing Robocop fly on number 3...feels like he threw the "S"

I agree that there is no way Frank Miller could say that it's a tribute to Will Eisner's work. Eisner's work was some of the classiest stories I've ever read, about bittersweet absurdities in an unfair and dirty city. Eisner was fun, poigniant, gritty and classy all at the same time.

Frank Miller is all about Neo-Noir. It's trying to capture bits here and there of a smoky, bluesy character, except put into a semi-realistic present day WHERE HE DOESN'T BELONG. Beautiful imagery, sure, but that's not all there's supposed to be with this character! Frank Miller attempted to be artsy, and, unfortunately, he failed.

Too much spectacle was haphazardly shoved down the throat of a masterpiece. It's sad to see ANY interest in The Spirit killed off in such a manner.

The Spirit

I saw it on Christmas. I was excited. I wanted to see it. I wanted it to be good so I could talk smack about all the lame critics out there.

I got an okay flick. I have no read The Spirit. Only flicked through it so take everything I have to say about the actual accuracy of print to screen with a grai of salt.

The first twenty or so minutes contained flash backs and a fecal fight. Sam. Jackson's character, Octopus, is one I will have to research because he has an odd fetish about a certain food that didn't seem right. I was not entertained at all. I was timid watching the beginning of the film. The acting WAS a bit flat. Silken Floss was the only acting that I had seen aside from Octopus's cronies.

Denny Colt gets beat up. A lot. It is pretty neat to see him get back up over and over again. If you're entertained by campy movies, such as James Bond pre-Daniel Craig, you will enjoy the sluttiness of The Spirit. The women are attractive, and he recognizes them as so. He has the look to me. I enjoyed Gabriel Macht's acting.

Octopus was okay. I did not know what to expect. From what I read, you're only supposed to see his hands so I was mildly disappointed at this. Jackson did provide an ironic acting style though that seemed to have a decent reception.

As far as visually... it was good most of the time. The pure black and white scenes that really were reminiscent of Sin City were a bit out of place. Despite those most of the settings were mediocre but acceptable. Also, the lack of music in most of the scenes was very disheartening to me. They could have helped set a more detective-like/sensual theme. It was PG-13. It was Frank Miller. It was okay. It is a renter. And I do not think it is near as bad as what the critics are saying.

Its not great, it's not horrible. Its Frank Millerish in entiredy but the cheesey noir works and fits in.

To anyone saying this is Frank Miller's first film. Its his first SOLO film yes,but he co-directed Sin City. To the guy saying he was just a glorified assistant, I'd really like to know where you got that.

Anyway, I liked the movie. The big problem critics and everyone obviously have is that it's just plain wierd, and has a lot of unexplained, seemingly random crap that goes on. But that'spart of the fun of it. Although the climx got a little too wierd and too chaotic for me, it's still far more worth your time than crap Like Transformers or Spider-Man 3. This was at least made for people with a brain in their head.

I thought it was pretty cool, granted it was by no means the best movie I've ever seen, but really it wasn't that bad. I've never read any of the Spirit comics before so I can't really say that Frank [frick]ed it up one way or the other. But if anyone hasn't seen it yet, give it watch. At the very least it's somethin' to do...

I like the Spirit, but it was kind of slow. It did start out pretty good with the fight screens. Literally throwing the kitchen sink & the toilet, was funny and classic. Eva was hot as ever. I wonder if they are going to sell that Xerox copy of Butty on ebay? It was good but not as good as Sin City!

Just one man's opinion. I may have liked it better if I had gone in without any knowledge of the character (but really, probably not too much).

I just saw the movie less than an hour ago, IT WAS HORRIBLE! It seemed pratically random from the begining to end. Samuel Jackson did great at acting and so did the rest of the cast but, the way it was pumped up it should've been way better.

I laughed my ass off, If that says anything for it. but I did enjoy the movie. sure the dialoge was a little cheesy, but thats kinda the point really. if you like B movies youll love the spirit. if you think a movie needs to be perfect to be watchable like some kinda film nazi, you might wanna skip this one.

Spirit = Film noir, Over dramatic dialoge, cheesy one liners, great effects, hot babes, and cool over the top action.

Here's what I wrote about it on Flickr...

"...Aesthetically creative and entertaining. However the dialogue came across as forced at times, and the acting was lackluster. The film definately suffered from poor execution, but got a boost from the visually stunning cinemotography..."

I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

i have not read the originals so i can't say if it followed them well enough of at all, but to it being a good film? it was [frick]in great, yes it's cheesy, its supposed to be. thats the humor of it, i work at a movie theater and i know peoples responses to it, they, for the most part hated it, but since when does the public ever have good taste? shit they are the dumbasses who remade the day the earth stood still. anyways its a great movie and it has intelligent humor which is why general public hates it, u have to think to really get it. most people dont wanna think in a movie thats why they hate it
