Sarah Paulson Gets some Spirit

She’s portrayed a witty liberal Christian comedian and a scientist who is about to be eaten alive, and now she’s going to be portraying the love of a dead man. Sarah Paulson has been signed on to star alongside Gabriel Macht and Scarlett Johansson in the movie adaption of Will Eisner’s classic The Spirit.

The star of Studio 60 and the ill-fated Dr. Caron in Joss Whedon’s Serenity (I squealed when I realized it was the same actress for the first time), Sarah Paulson has landed the role alongside Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes.

She’ll be playing Dr. Ellen Dolan, the police commissioner’s daughter, and the hero’s one and only true love. The movie centers around a rookie cop who returns from the dead to fight crime as the Spirit from the shadows of Central City.

Also signed up are Dan Lauria ("The Path to 9/11") who will play the commissioner, Stana Katic ("Feast of Love") will play a rookie cop, Johnny Simmons ("Evan Almighty") will play a young Denny Colt (The Spirit) and Louis Lombardi (“24”) will take the role of Phobos, one of Samuel L. Jackson’s (The Octopus) henchmen.
