At a recent press conference for Jim Sheridan's Brothers, actress Natalie Portman said that she was so intrigued when she heard that director Kenneth Branagh was directing an adaptation of Marvel Comics' Thor that she just had to be a part of it:

"I just thought it sounded like a weird idea because Kenneth Branagh's directing it, so I was just like, 'Kenneth Branagh doing 'Thor' is super-weird. I've gotta do it.'"

And we're glad you found it weird, Natalie! Anything to get you to do another comic book movie after V for Vendetta!

bleedthefreak-----its weird to her because Branagh directing it gives Thor more credibility and importance. He is known as a serious actor and director and those 2 things didn't go hand in hand with (comic book movie) in her mind.

@Hawks: Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head! I don't really care what her reason was, I'm just glad she's in it!

Bleed, you don't fins a classically trained Shakespearian actor and director making a CBM a bit off the wall? Cos I do! Sure, he's perfect for Thor but its still a rare occurrence. You wouldn't see martin Scorsese directing a Punisher movie.

Natalie, marry me..I'll be good to ya baby!

All the explanation I needed was:

"It's Kenneth Branagh....directing Thor.....'nuff said."

@Ror: Oh, man, why did you have to go and put that idea in my head?!? Scorcese doing Punisher would rock! Except...he would probably cast Leo as the Punisher...

@DrDon: Heh.

im excited to see how they tie in the 'realistic' world of iron man and captain america which can be told in a way that we can think that these people can actualy exist,and on the other hand we have the mythological, majical, shakespearian world of thor and combine the two in avengers! oh yh btw about cap ap i saw this pic from sum1 who posted this before
Photobucket
i would love to see this costume..its the most beliveable costume for a movie (the 70's movie was accurate to the comic look but very campy) i attempted to make it for myself...

huh? huh?

i had no idea who Branagh was until Thor so i had no idea why it was weird thanks Hawks

I cant wait for Thor! I'm guessing that the fact Brannagh's directing this particular CBM is the main reason why brilliant actors like Hopkins and Portman are getting involved! :)

TheLivingWeapon: I definitely wouldnt want to see that costume in any movie to be honest! I'd like to see the Ultimate WWII costume in The First Avenger and a cross between the regular and Ultimate costume in The Avengers!

Kenneth Branagh is a great director has anyone seen his movies that he directed i.e. Hamlet, Frankenstein, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry V.

@TheLivingWeapon

that Captain America design looks good

@jazzman- thanks dude

@josh- the first one i definetly see that for the part of the movie set in WWII and i think the 2nd suit is iconic i just got a little feeling that it might look a lil corney thats why i was looking for a more realistic look but saying that spiderman and superman still stuck with the iconic costume and pulled it off..i dunno suttin just worries me

what about the costume that bucky wears as cap?

jazzman@ saw frankenstein didint think it was as bad as its reviews made it out to be, its his classic vision mixed in with thor that should make it work, only thing shocking with thor was helmsworth as the lead to be honest.

@LivingWeapon/Josh: Yes, I think they would have to subdue the colors somewhat to make it more effective. I think that if they're going to be starting the story in WWII, we'll probably see something like this, at list at first:

It keeps the basic design, but tones down the colors and gives him head protection. I mean, even the great Captain America could fall victim to a stray bullet or shrapnel, right?

easy josh mate hows it going?
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 11/21/2009, 4:11 PM
TheLivingWeapon: I do actually like the costume that you posted and I completely agree that the original costume might end up looking a liitle corny on screen but I'd still like a version thats close to the original! IMO,they should use the Ulitmate mask (with the chin strap thing) with the regular outfit but with the Ultimate belt, boots etc! Im a big fan of Bucky's outfit and would love to see that in a movie someday but again, I want to see the Captain America costume in his movie/The Avengers! :)

Brent: I agree - plus, if Cap's movie is going to be set in WWII some changes (like the ones you mention) will have to be made because the characters original costume just wont look right in that type of surroundings IMO!

ukboy28: Not too bad thanks mate! How're things your way...any flooding, lol? :P
bsprecher
bsprecher - 11/21/2009, 4:12 PM
@josh: I was actually thinking that the reason they introduced that Thor costume was because they were planning on going with something similar in the film, but that's just my own speculation.

Definitely WW2 Ultimate Cap costume for First Avenger.

Then for Avengers go Ultimate Cap.

And the Thor costume that Josh posted is perfect.

I liked it when Walt Simonson introduced the Thor armor waaaay back when, but I never liked the beard. It just made him seem too old (which, I guess, is silly since Thor is hundreds, if not thousands, of years old).

@brent- yup i love that costume for the 1st part of the movie fingas crossed

i agree frankenstein was good i dont know why them critics giving that movie bad reviews for. im also shocked that Chris Hemsworth is casted as Thor we just wait and see if he does good playing Thor. another thing Chris Hemsworth is going to be in Red Dawn remake next year.

@Tyle: Yeah, that would work for a WWII Cap helmet/cowl.

Anil: I would rather see Natalie in a fur bikini myself, but who says she's not hyped for it? She just said that she was intrigued right away because Kenneth Branagh was involved. Imagine if they had offered her the script with Brett Ratner attached. I'm sure she wouldn't have had the same reaction.

@ thelivingweapon

i love ya man, but you should be drug out into the streets and shot for putting john cena in a captain america costume :)

by the way, that costume was used in the story Secret War, it was cap's undercover costume when they invaded latveria. it is cool, but in the cap movie, i'd rather see his WWII costume. in avengers, i want him to have the same exact costume from the comics, but with tactical military pants and boots.

i think the only parts of the costume that MIGHT look corny on screen are the pants and boots. thats what kinda ruins the translation from comics to screen in my eyes, for a LOT of superhero costumes. its hard to make tights look cool, and tough. but if they go with the tactical pants, it could still make him look american-military-ish while still looking like a badass. the chainmail upper body is a must though!

JoshWilding - 11/21/2009, 4:33 PM
TheLivingWeapon: ANYTHING would be better than something like that, lol!

TYLER: That is THE best helmet design for the Cap movie! Hell, I wish the regular Cap would change his costume to look more like that - its a fantastic design!
