THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER's Gorr The God Butcher, Christian Bale, Open To MCU Return As Different Character

Former Batman, Christian Bale, played Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the actor has now revealed he would be happy to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe return as a different character!

Christian Bale was an amazing Batman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, and the news that he was set join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was welcomed by comic book fans. Cast as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, we expected big things and...he mostly delivered.

Unfortunately, the actor didn't have the greatest material to work with, and many of Gorr's scenes seemingly ended up on the cutting room floor. Bale has already shared his regrets that his interactions with Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum were scrapped, and many have wondered if he might have walked away from the latest Thor movie unhappy.

In the video below, Bale actually expressed his enthusiasm to potentially return to the MCU, this time as a different character.

"A good story's a good story," he responded when asked if he'd be open to taking on a role in that shared world again. "Good character, good director, if it's an interesting thing and, crucially, if my kids are telling me that I'm not allowed not to do it." Bale later pointed out that his kids were the main reason for him signing up to play Gorr in the first place.

Marvel Studios has "re-used" actors on a few occasions now, with Gemma Chan playing the villainous Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel before returning as Sersi in Eternals

We're sure more could be done with Bale after his somewhat forgettable, but still very good turn as Gorr and have to believe Kevin Feige would jump at the chance to put him in either the Fantastic Four or X-Men franchises, for example. For now, it seems we'll have to wait and see.

"Too silly to take seriously, there’s still a lot to love about Thor: Love and Thunder, but unlike Thor: Ragnarok, it’s unlikely to be a movie you’ll fall in love with," we said in our review earlier this year. "Marvel Studios may be developing a quantity over quality issue."

@DrReedRichards - why do marvel cast great actors in these nothing roles. You could have got anyone off the block for Gorr and Whatever the dude name was in Doctor strange. Would have been way cheaper.

Hopefully he’ll get to work with a more serious and professional director if he returns. 🤷‍♂️

I mean, he wouldn't be the first, but why he'd ever want to return is beyond me. Guess the MCU as a name still has a pull, despite being told time and time again that Phase IV killed it, or whatever...

@DrReedRichards - it's called money, he can't only do lower budget films. Need something to pay that expensive house bill.

I think people would see this movie a lot differently if they had taken out the whole absolutely horrible sequence where he faces off with speech impediment Zeus.

That's kinda where the Titanic hit the iceberg.

@DocSpock - I think the ship was already at the bottom of the opening sometime after we got to New Asgard in the first act.

He's too big a name and had played too big a character that Feige would never recast him for another role. Nor should he; Gorr justshould have been given more to do. (Same could be said of Hela too, but that was the better movie.)

I liked love and thunder, especially the last 45 minutes, but gorr was wasted. Too many offscreen god kills not enough screen time. If you bring in an actor of Christian’s caliber give him ample screen time
