Christian Bale was an amazing Batman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, and the news that he was set join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was welcomed by comic book fans. Cast as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, we expected big things and...he mostly delivered.
Unfortunately, the actor didn't have the greatest material to work with, and many of Gorr's scenes seemingly ended up on the cutting room floor. Bale has already shared his regrets that his interactions with Peter Dinklage and Jeff Goldblum were scrapped, and many have wondered if he might have walked away from the latest Thor movie unhappy.
In the video below, Bale actually expressed his enthusiasm to potentially return to the MCU, this time as a different character.
"A good story's a good story," he responded when asked if he'd be open to taking on a role in that shared world again. "Good character, good director, if it's an interesting thing and, crucially, if my kids are telling me that I'm not allowed not to do it." Bale later pointed out that his kids were the main reason for him signing up to play Gorr in the first place.
Marvel Studios has "re-used" actors on a few occasions now, with Gemma Chan playing the villainous Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel before returning as Sersi in Eternals.
We're sure more could be done with Bale after his somewhat forgettable, but still very good turn as Gorr and have to believe Kevin Feige would jump at the chance to put him in either the Fantastic Four or X-Men franchises, for example. For now, it seems we'll have to wait and see.
"Too silly to take seriously, there’s still a lot to love about Thor: Love and Thunder, but unlike Thor: Ragnarok, it’s unlikely to be a movie you’ll fall in love with," we said in our review earlier this year. "Marvel Studios may be developing a quantity over quality issue."
