THOR: RAGNAROK Concept Art Reveals A Closer Look At The Competitors In The Grandmaster's Arena

Thor: Ragnarok included a lot of very unique characters, many of whom competed in The Grandmaster's arena. Now, thanks to concept artist Andy Park, we have a closer look at those who were forced to fight.

Andy Park is one of the best concept artists working at Marvel Studios, and someone responsible for many of the amazing designs we see on screen. Now, he's shared some of his work from Thor: Ragnarok and, as you can see, it provides a closer look at the competitors in The Grandmaster's arena.

While many of the characters here were essentially background extras, they helped give Sakaar a unique feel, and ensured that Taika Waititi created a world which felt both vibrant and original. The advantage of this artwork is that we get to see these fighters in a clearer way than ever before, while comparing them to familiar faces like Thor, The Hulk, Korg, and Miek.

The opening few minutes of Avengers: Infinity War revealed that Thanos killed many of these guys, so chances are they won't return in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, we do know that Korg and Miek are set to have a key role in the sequel, with the latter seemingly getting a lot more screentime.

Check out the artwork in the Instagram post below:

Definitely one of the most fun times I’ve had leading the Vis Dev department at Marvel Studios was working on Thor: Ragnarok! We were asked to design a TON of alien gladiators for the Grandmaster’s Contest of Champions. These were the approved design picks by @taikawaititi . I had the most amazing team of artists that made me so proud to go to every meeting to show what they came up with every week. Check the tags to see who designed that particular character. #thor #thorragnarok #gladiators #contestofchampions #conceptart #characterdesign #illustration #marvel #marvelstudios #chrishemsworth #anotherday #anotherdoug (clarification: 2nd page designs were all @kortizart , all other untagged, including Korg & Meik are done by Tully Summers- he’s not on Instagram) One other note: Thor’s gladiator look was a collaboration between myself & costume designer @mayesrubeo

@Superheromoviefan - I was wondering the same. I hope there's some throwaway references among them.
