THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi Reveals An Alternate After-Credits Scene (And Where We Might See It)

Thor: Ragnarok featured two very different after-credits scenes and now director Taika Waititi has shed some light on a scrapped sequence and when exactly Marvel might consider releasing it for us to see.

Thor: Ragnarok's second after-credits scene features Jeff Goldblum being confronted by a group of angry citizens on Sakaar who took part in Korg's revolution. He offers to call a truce with them but the screen goes black before we learn what happens next. Well, director Taika Waititi has confirmed in a new interview that a different version was shot which would have brought the villain to Earth.

"We were determined to not have too many of them," he reveals before confirming that the Avengers: Infinity War tag was added late in the game. "The thing [with Loki and Thor], that was the thing we did in reshoots. It was a last minute decision. And the other thing at the end, with The Grandmaster, was something we shot on Gold Coast that was something I planned for a long time. It was either going to be that or it was going to be Topaz and Grandmaster stowing away on the ship."

The Grandmaster being among the Asgardians on Thor's ships would have definitely been interesting as it would have left the door open to him returning somewhere down the line. In comparison, the scene used leaves his fate very much in the air and it's now unclear when and if he could return.

On the plus side, it sounds like this alternate scene could appear on the Thor: Ragnarok Blu-ray.

"That could be on the DVD in the deleted scenes, those two in the crowd of the Asgardians and he pushes through and goes, ‘I’ve never heard of this Earth place but… We got to keep a low profile.’ And they kind of put these blankets over their heads and disband into the crowd." Here's hoping we get to see it, eh? Do you think Marvel chose the right scene? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

Lord I loved this movie. It wasn't as funny as everyone said and that's ok. However, that is not a complaint as the humor worked and in fact worked so well that it didn't take away from the serious moments of the film(a complaint I've heard). The movie definately had its serious moments and to say this is just a comedy is a misrepresentation of what it actually is. Best of Thor movies by a long shot (I loved the first ) and one of marvels best movies period.

Maybe he's just hitchhiking so he can catch up with the Collector?

Missed opportunity. Imagine... the Grandmaster sits in a cell on Sakaar, then looks shocked when a guard walks up and falls down dead. Behind him stands the Collector, who says something like "Your games always DID get you into trouble." Cut back to Grandmaster, who grins, then fade to black.

I don't understand why they are going to earth other than for plot convenience when the most logical place to go would be Vanaheim.

Grandmaster I'd like to see. Jeff Goldblum with blue dribble on his chin: I hope that's the last of him.

I read somewhere that Taika also shot a post credit scene with the Grandmaster moving in with Darryl from the Team Thor shorts. Now that would've been hilarious!
