THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi Wants To Helm A Solo Black Widow Movie... But Make It A Comedy

During a new interview, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi was asked if there was any other Marvel characters he'd like to take a stab at, and he chose Black Widow... but funnier. More past the jump...

Scarlett Johansson's Black Window wouldn't be the first MCU character that comes to mind when you think of comedy, but then, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is not the type of filmmaker to go with the obvious choice.

During an interview with iO9, Waititi was asked if there's anyone else in the MCU that he feels his unique brand of humor would suit, and he responded with the following:

“In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises, so I’d love to see Black Widow. [I’d like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be, because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”

Ummm, perhaps she could crack knock-knock jokes while she cracks necks?

To be fair, if anyone could make a more humorous take on Black Widow work it's Waititi - but the question is, will he ever get the chance to? A solo outing for Miss Romanoff is something fans have wanted to see for quite some time, but the studio has yet to confirm their interest.

Who knows, though - if Thor: Ragnarok proves to be as big a success as tracking indicates it will be, Waititi might just get his way.

I'd watch it. She's cute, she's sexy, she's funny, she's got a level head. And she's a goddamn knockout. I'm not saying this should happen, but I'd watch it.

"Funny" can be used to further the narrative and character arcs, but he seems to be implying that Funny = Better in all cases, and I have to strongly disagree.

I wouldn't mind him directing Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3,I'm happy with James Gunn directing it but I would love to see Taika Waititi take on the characters.

Hawkeye and Widow will never get solo movies, but together, that's a possibility.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - that's what I was hoping for after the first Avengers. A spy movie starring those two, featuring Nick Fury and SHIELD. Instead we got Agents of SHIELD but, oh well.

I'm fairly open minded about how characters are adapted, but he's not the right person for this. If anything, Black Widow has the potential to be the film that allows Marvel to expand its horizons by going in the other direction. If they deliver something a little more serious and with more of an edge, it could really take people by surprise and excite them for the future of an MCU with such a wide spectrum of stories.
