Thor: Ragnarok takes us to places it's fair to say no one could have predicted and that includes the destruction of Asgard at the hands of Surtur. As a result of that, the God of Thunder takes Asgard's citizens to safety on a massive spaceship once owned by The Grandmaster and is heading to Earth until Thanos' massive vessel - known as The Sanctuary II - stops the hero and his brother in their tracks.

Blowing Asgard up is obviously a game changer and in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thor: Ragnarok co-writer Eric Pearson has explained the movie's ending and what might come next.

"I forget exactly how that idea came up, but I remember bringing it up right at the beginning. One of the previous works had Asgard not really being destroyed, or being rebuilt or something. Well, it's Ragnarok. That means apocalypse in Norse mythology. Don't we got to blow it up? We really got to do it here, and I think we can't be scared of it. The idea of making Thor a quasi-Noah figure ... in getting everyone onto the arc to preserve them — I think I knew right from the beginning we had to do that. It was more about the tricky thing of making it Thor's choice. It wasn't that he just lost a huge battle. He learned something more about being a ruler that the people are the kingdom, not the space itself. As a king, as a selfless king, you've got to make sacrifices. We tried to present him with a no-win scenario, and he made the right choice to continue on the Asgardian lineage, as opposed to trying to punch his problems to death."

After seeing Thor: Ragnarok, it's clear that the new King of Asgard is never going to be the same again and what happens next to his people promises to be very interesting. Will Marvel follow the comic books and create a new Asgard on Earth or is Thanos going to wipe them all out when he attacks Thor?

Hoping he only further powers up with time and training. I'm talking portals, time travel, matter manipulation, etc.

The ending was kind of stupid. It didn't even feel like a Thor movie anymore. And that fact that every character was treated as a complete joke made the dramatic moments impossible for me to care about.

@TheDayman - I guess I saw a completely different Thor movie than you. A term like “Complete joke” is mere hyperbole. Don’t worry, I’m sure you will adore JL in 10 days.

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Much better than GOTG2.

@Liverpool4life - All those shitty jokes in GOTG2 ruined it for me. Humor in Thor worked for the most part, I liked Hulk and Korg in particular.
