BUMBLEBEE Director Travis Knight Responds To Reports That He Will Direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Rumors have been swirling that Bumblebee director Travis Knight could end up replacing James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and now the filmmaker has responded to those reports...

Since Disney decided to fire James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been left in a state of flux. Originally set for release in 2020, Marvel Studios has indefinitely delayed the threequel as despite having a completed script in place, Kevin Feige and company are clearly reluctant to just hire someone else to shoot that (especially with stars like Dave Bautista refusing to appear if they do).

However, one of the names we've heard may be a strong contender is Bumblebee director Travis Knight.

During a recent interview, the filmmaker weighed in on those reports and was quick to dismiss them as a rumour. Now, he's obviously not going to admit that he's in talks with the ever-secretive studio but if we take his word for it, then the next Guardians movie remains without a director.

"After Bumblebee, my goal is to return to work at the animation studios Laika, my "child", bringing with me all the baggage of experiences I have gained with this project," he explained. "I'm a huge fan of what Marvel did, it's no surprise for anyone to know that as a child I was a huge fan of comics. But no, it's just a rumor!"

Are you guys disappointed to hear that the Bumblebee helmer won't be setting his sights on Star-Lord and company? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

Well it would have been fun but oh well.

@MrCamw1 - At least he's honest. Usually even if a director is not attached they play hardball just to [frick] with the reporters. Nice fellow and I have no doubts he will raise the bar for transformers films even if the film is mediocre.

@MrCamw1 - I heard Marvel were lining up Knight to direct the Eternals, should everything with BumbleBe's release goes well.

But that could just be a rumor.

@L0RDbuckethead - I thought Eternals already had a director.

@MrCamw1 - That would probably explain why I haven't heard anything about Knight taking it on. I didn't know that. After a quick search, it looks like they got someone named Chloe Zhao.

Hmm, never heard of her.

@L0RDbuckethead - neither have I. I just know she comes from an Indie background and she has a good track record.

Looks like GOTG-3 is in a similar state that Ant-Man was in. I guess it'll end up being made, but hurriedly.

@KingJoffrey - these situations are not even close. Ant-Man was about to start production, like was a month or so away and they knew they were going to need a new director before Edgar wright left. Sets were built people were hired and they were already committed. Guardians 3 was a couple months away from the start of production and sets were starting to get built, casting wasn't even started yet. Marvel is in no rush which is why they postponed the movie indefinitely. Does that sound like a rush job?

@JustAChillFan - Probably not, but both movies are suffering/suffered from a major change in directing duties - which resulted/will result in the finished product likely different from the original concept.

That being said, I enjoyed Ant-Man and actually loved the sequel. As far as GOTG3 goes... I'm kinda' on the fence about it.

Still such a shame that Gunn was sacked over tweets from years ago.

@mcu93 - It really is.
I am a big believer in second (and even third) chances, and despite the disgusting content of his tweets, he really does seemed to have matured and come a long way since then, especially after putting his heart into the GOTG franchise.

That being said, you'd think Disney/Marvel would do some kind of background check before hiring a director? The man has directed a series called PG PORN, and while it's not exactly explicit, it doesn't really line up with Disney's kid-friendly vision.

A lot of things don't add up here.

Kubo and the Two Strings was really good. He would have been a good choice.

Just cancel it.

@Kyos - Or activate the extremely likely scenario of finding a talented director and making a good gotg vol 3.

Or are we gonna act.like gunn was the only one who can make a good gotg movie?

Because thats what people were saying about whedon after the first avengers.......

@Kyos - I don't think they cancel. They have been without directors before and gotg makes A LOT of money now.

@Jeight8 -

I love gunn but he isnt that special.

@Jeight8 @DepressedCipher

You're right of course. They won't cancel it, and shouldn't, if only for the folks who'll get to work on it.

I just barely care anymore.

I’m still all for retiring this incarnation of the GotG and waiting to see if Gunn can come back in a few years and close out the story he wanted to tell. Split the characters up in the meantime with the Rocket/Groot show, have Quill partner with Captain Marvel for an adventure, put Mantis on the Avengers, whatever...

Still hope they add Thor to Gunn's script and Taika takes the helm
